Disappointed 4/19/2017 3:29:15 PM

Pros: This drive served as supplementary storage for my DVR.

Cons: The drive appeared to start failing a month or so ago, maybe more--some scheduled recordings just didn't happen. Then earlier this week it failed entirely, after being in service about 21 months. Even the DVR doesn't recognize it.
Bought a package (drive and enclosure) to replace it, and the DVR recognized that new drive within about 15 seconds.

Had One, Bought Another 1/26/2017 1:27:15 PM

Pros: I've used this model Sabrent enclosure for about a year. I bought it because of the low cost and because it has a cooling fan. It has worked flawlessly, so I bought another because I had an additional need. I used an IDE drive in the first. I used an SATA drive in the second. Both work fine.

Cons: The installation of the IDE drive is fairly simple. Just plug in the IDE connector and the power plug and you're ready to go. The SATA installation is more difficult. The SATA drive slides into the case and plugs directly into the connector, which is below the IDE cable position. The IDE cable must be folded to be out of the way. If not folded correctly it will push the drive away from the connector when the cover is reattached to the case. It took several tries before I found that the IDE cable could not be looped out of the way, but had to be folded near its connection to the case. I had contacted the help phone number included in the documentation. The person I spoke to did not offer a solution to the cable problem. He just said to return the enclosure. He said the IDE cable could not be removed. I decided to try different fold positions for the cable and was successful.

Overall Review: If I had a need for an additional external drive enclosure I would buy another Sabrent. Reasonable cost and good lasting ca

Awesome enclosure, love it 5/4/2016 12:59:04 PM

Pros: Great ventilation for hard drive, quiet operation, and has great indicator lights (lower light shines blue when powered, upper light shines red during read/write). Easy to place drive inside enclosure, 4 screws to remove side panel, and 4 screws holds drive inside enclosure. Handles newer eSATA drive as well as older IDE drive. Can use USB or eSATA to connect to your computer. Great enclosure at a fair price.

Cons: Drive stand/support could hold drive more securely in place, to avoid accidentally falling over while in use. As with any external drive, be careful not to knock it over while in use. Includes everything needed to make a great external backup drive, even a small screwdriver.

Overall Review: Has a USB cable, to use with eSATA you will need a separate eSATA cable ($5-10 on NewEgg), to connect enclosure to the computer, but same with all other eSATA drives/enclosures.

I purchased a 2TB Western Digital Black Performance hard drive (drive has a 5 yr warranty) for my enclosure, to make an external backup drive that will rival any commercial retail product. This gives me a more reliable, longer lasting drive, for a little less money. Would not hesitate buying another if the need arises.

No E Sata cable included 10/12/2015 2:51:33 PM

Pros: Like the product except for the lack of Esata cable

Cons: Doesn't come with a E sata cable even though it advertises that its E sata compatible

Overall Review: I know its 30 bucks, but I would have given you an extra 5 bucks not to waste my time

Decent Enclosure 8/13/2015 5:11:04 AM

Pros: Solid design
eSATA port
Built in fan

Cons: No usb 3.0 (but I guess that's why the price is halfway decent)
The fan rubs on the case a bit with the slightest bit of pressure

Overall Review: All in all this enclosure has done it job for me. The case was a real pain in the rear to pull apart but that's not really a bad thing. Maybe I'll actually leave the HDD in the enclosure this time! The built in fan is really nice to have. It keeps the hard drive nice and cool. I can't help but wonder if they would have done better by providing more ventilation though as the air flow in the case is a little weak.

Over a year and still going 7/24/2015 2:53:21 AM

Pros: Cooling fan. SATA and PATA compatible.

Cons: Wish they were on sale.

Overall Review: Have 4 of these in different locations matched with Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM hard drives for back ups.

Still all running with no loud noises from fans. Running through USB cables because I had no e-sata cards. I did try one but learned that once formatted through USB you can not change cable setup without reformatting again. Bummer.
