yeah, unofficially, some mobo makers introduced pcie4 feature, as a "ready" feature, like the Gigabite Aorus Ultra

How does this compare to a 3200mbps read pcie gen 3 nvme ssd?

After watching some videos performing benchmarks and reviews, it appears to have the CAPABILITY of being bore than twice as fast and then gen3 PCIe models.  This is assuming you, in fact, have a gen 4 PCIe capable motherboard, and additionally a powerful CPU to handle the fast tasks.

I've heard that PCIe 4.0 runs hotter than PCIe 3.0, is a heatsink going to be necessary or at the very least a good idea for the longevity of the SSD?

Most of the high end X570 Motherboards have a cover for PCIe 4.0 SSDs, and the Chipset Fan cools the SSD.  So if you have a B550 motherboard or a low end X570 motherboard, it would be good to put a heatsink on your SSD.

Almost all current high end M.2 MLC/TLC/QLC SSDs have a DRAM cache as well as a pseudo SLC cache. The purpose of both is to make writing to the drive much faster for most reasonably sized writes to the drive. DRAM can store (temporarily) information many times faster than the native writing abilities of the drive, so it can, for instance, load 10,000 small files into the ram in 1 second and as far as the rest of the computer is concerned, the data is on the drive. What is actually happening is they are dumped into the DRAM cache, then pushed into the pseudo SLC cache (a secondary cache that is part of the NAND memory itself, but stores less information per cell, so can be written faster without errors). It is then finally slowly pushed into the much slower TLC NAND flash memory for permanent storage. To the user this makes it look like writes to the drive are happening instantly, when in fact they are much more slowly being pushed onto the final TLC flash behind the scenes. In normal daily usage this will make writes to the drive appear very fast. You only run into trouble with write speeds when you write such a large amount at once that you overcome both the dram and pseudo SLC cache and have to slow down writes to the native speed of the TLC NAND flash, which is vastly slower. You may run into this if you were to, for instance, copy a 60 GB game from one M.2 drive to another. After the first few GB it would slow down to a small fraction of the original speed.
