Is there a buggy firmware returning SMART percent used beyond the actual wear of the drive? Google for Samsung 990 and you will find the Reddit article and numerous news articles about this. I bought this very 2TB here at launch and SMART already shows 6% life used from only 14.4 TB written in a mere 13 power-on days (330 hours).

I bought Samsung 990 Pro 2TB on March 31, 2023. It has manufacturing date Feb 14 2023 and already with the latest firmware 1B2QJXD7 which addresses wearing issues in SMART monitoring health.

Is it necessary to perform firmware updates for this SSD?

No heatsink is included. If your motherboard does not have a heatsink/heat dispersal plate (most do these days), it would probably be wise to add one yourself.

What are the TBW warranty terms for the 2TB model? 980 Pro 2TB is covered up to 1200TBW, but the Samsung warranty page doesn't have an entry for the 990 Pro 2TB yet.

Even better, if you google for Samsung 990 you will see a Reddit thread and numerous articles about SMART returning an abnormally high wear percentage used already. I know this from personal experience, 2 drives in RAID1: one drive is at 6% life used with 14.4TB written and 333 power-on hours, while the other drive is also at 6% life used with 14.4TB written and 334 power-on hours.

Hopefully this turns out to be a mere firmware bug and Samsung ships a firmware update to address it. That being said, it has only been out for a month, I am willing to give Samsung time to respond to this publicly.
