Outstanding Performance in Multi-TaskingSamsung’s fast random read speeds (up to 80,000 IOPS) maximize performance when it matters most. And 256MB of DRAM cache memory helps maintain stable random read performance, even if the access range is increased. A Samsung SSD is the ideal solution for your everyday computing needs, such as web browsing, document creation, viewing or editing multimedia files, playing PC games, etc.
Lightning Fast Speed, at Your CommandThe 830 Series’ superior sequential read speed provides lightning fast access to your files, loading large multimedia files quickly and smoothly.
Sustained Performance and Unrivaled ReliabilitySamsung SSDs are designed and build completely in-house. The Samsung SSD 830 Series is optimized for exceptional, sustained performance and unrivaled reliability through its specially-engineered wear-leveling and garbage collection algorithms.
A Complete, User-Friendly desktop SolutionThe Samsung SSD 830 series Desktop Upgrade Kit includes a user-friendly installation kit, including a full version of Norton Ghost, an interactive installation guide, and premium installation tools for desktops. Samsung’s SSD Magician software eliminates the confusion and uncertainties of SSD management, making it simple for users to maximize the performance and lifetime of their Samsung SSD.
Toggle DDR NAND FlashSamsung’s 20-nanometer-class toggle DDR NAND Flash chips enable data transfer rates of up to 133 megabits per second (Mbps)-more than three times faster than conventional (40 Mbps) single-date-rate (SDR) NAND Flash chips.
3-core ARM9-based MCX ControllerWhile most SSD makers rely on generic, dual-core controllers, Samsung has developed its own exclusive, triple-core MCX controllers that excel in multi-tasking and help to assure stead performance over time. Based on an ARM9 controller, its three CPU cores can execute multiple instructions such reading data, writing data and optimization.
Pros: The main reason I bought this drive is because Samsung has one of the best, if not the best, track record for reliability in SSDs. Samsung manufactures their own controller so that increases reliability and accountability to a level that most of its competitors can't even reach. And its above par on speed versus the competition as well. Basically, its the all around choice for SSDs, you get great performance and great reliability. Mine has performed better than I could've imagined, taking my boot time from an old HDD with over 5 minutes to under 45 seconds (which is my favorite part). I can IMMEDIATELY click on an application and its in my face before my mouse stops clicking. I really just couldn't even imagine the speed of an SSD until I actually bought one. And this was a great one to buy.
Cons: The included bracket adapter is trash for newer computer cases because the screw wholes aren't recessed or on a punched in portion of the metal, so the screws obstruct the installation. Thankfully, most cases come with their own adapter included, and if your case isn't new enough for you to have received an adapter with it, I doubt you'll run into much trouble. Also, Norton Ghost is trash too. Norton is just a terrible resource hog and not worth the constant drain on resources in my opinion. I would STRONGLY recommend a clean install of Windows on a new SSD. Even the idea of copying an HDD to an SSD seems dumb in my opinion, so I really have no idea why they included it. After you install Windows on the SSD, you can plug the HDD back in and pull any files you want off of it anyway.
Overall Review: The setup can be a bear if you forget to check and see if your motherboard is AHCI compatible. If you're someone who thinks they know a lot about computers (but in reality not so much), it might be easy to fall prey to the idea that you can make it work. WRONG. Make sure your MoBo is AHCI compatible BEFORE you buy an SSD. Your MoBo manufacturer should have a support e-mail address where you can just shoot them an e-mail with your model number and asking if its AHCI compatible. Also, MAKE SURE YOU RUN SAMSUNG SSD MAGICIAN! It's incredibly important to, at the VERY least, use the "OS Optimization" tool to keep Windows from screwing up your SSD.
