Good for mSata 9/28/2016 4:41:40 PM

Pros: Very fast boot times
Easy to install
Compact design
Good name and reliability

Cons: You either need a native connection or adapter, extra cash will be necessary.
For the given speed, the price is not ideal, but for mSATA, it is a good price.

Overall Review: I would recommend SSD for booting OS or games with long load times (think Skyrim).
SATA is not as fast as M.2, but it's more than enough for most people. Very few would notice the difference.
I would recommend conventional SATA over mSATA because the cost is better for the same speed. If you're insistent on paying more money, jump to M.2.

Only one flaw that I could find... 7/2/2016 4:48:00 PM

Pros: The drive is about flawless. Consistently got close to rated speeds of read/write.

Cons: The only issue was that it ran too hot. I was always getting temps of 65 celcius and up even during idle times.

Overall Review: Get the Samsung EVO 850 instead. Basically the same drive but runs a lot cooler!

840 EVO mSATA 500G Rock as the Boot Drive 12/30/2015 9:31:12 AM

Pros: This is the first SSD I started using in my Lenovo laptop for booting. (I had one before for data caching). I love it. I no longer use the sleep or hibernate, because I can shutdown and boot-up in the same time frame. That alone on Windows is a big help.

I choose mSATA SSD because I wanted to leave the original HDD for backup/general data. In the Lenovo, it was extremely simple to setup and do the switch. In my laptop I have plenty of space with 500G SSD and 320 HDD. My understanding is that SSD have better life if they have room to move data around. Using the original HDD, might be overkill as even with some Steam games, music and work the 320G was only 50% full.

Cons: If I recall correctly, this mSATA didn't come with the mSATA screws. I am not sure what I figured out, but one or two screws would be nice.

Overall Review: Next time I get a SSD, I will probably choose the 1TB option, why not, right? I also have been tinkering with linux (Mint and elementaryOS) and plan to dual boot. I don't actually know, this is just future ideas.

I used the Samsung EVO 2.5 SSD at work (two actually) after using this one. Surprisingly, I had a lot of issues with those two devices. Anyhow, the Samsung 840 EVO mSATA rocks!

The Best- FYI the people who rated this bad have no clue-look at what they wrote 9/25/2015 8:39:45 PM

Pros: The fastest most reliable drive in its class currently. (of course sum1 will invent better) This absolutely dominates over any ocz, corsair(w/newer chip) or intel drive ive come across, in every way.
Almost had this a year, and i BEAT on this thing. dual booting win 7/8.1 inside a custom MSI MS-1757 Barebones Notebook running multiple vm's, I leave it on night and day 365. and it crushes every time ask it to.
Never a blue screen, a glitch, I've never seen even an -inkling- of ANY issue with this, NEVER any inconsistent behavior. Its as fast as the day i got it, and installed the OS's.

Cons: Unfortunately i didn't purchase it here, surprising amzn had it much less expensive, that's why this review isn't verified, but you can check it over on their site(this review, and see that its verified)
Seriously, WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO NEWEGGS PRICING???
They used to be the JAM! Bait n Switch? Greedy Managment?
Its too bad, because theyre going to lose a lot of loyal customers...
Sorry newegg! But youre getting greedy..

Overall Review: CONCLUSION: What made me write this is the bad reviews i saw here. (read my background below)
The bad reviews from this drive here on newegg are as follows:
1. guy #1 gave this one star because he didnt get the cheap little adaptor? Really? Total noob incompetent! Maybe should've got the correct mobo?Or read more about its specs b4 buying?
2 . bad review guy #2 states he got a "stutter", and a "hang" with no support(explanation) on why or how that this issue is the ssd's fault.. His one stutter that day, or "hang" could have been one of a THOUSAND things! Thats NOOB TALK! He hasnt a clue.
3 Bad review guy #3 is my favorite.. Just GENIUS! and i quote "my computer guy try to copy my system's data to this ssd, but crashed with no reason. just totally crashed in the end"
Warning: if the reviewer states he has a *computer guy, you may not want his "Expertise".. lol and what he says makes no sense in my language at least.Probably wanted a refund to buy the newest mw3 or something

I've been building-repairing pc's mobile devices & macs since 1994. I repair motherboards with new bios chips, build custom laptops, even intricate, micro soldering on mobile device mother/daughter-boards as well as computer motherboards. I know about as much as you can about hardware.

A Most Effective Upgrade . . . 3/31/2015 2:06:51 PM

Pros: Easy installation in Lenovo Thinkpad T520.
mSATA installation frees up main drive-bay for mass storage.
Low power consumption with virtually no heat generation.
Samsung Magician software can't be beat for late-model retail version Samsung SSDs.

Cons: None . . . buy one!

Overall Review: Even though connected to a 3Gbit/s mSATA interface, the Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD totally transformed my Lenovo T520 into an entirely new machine. If I didn't have the need for mass storage in this laptop, I would have purchased a Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" SSD and plugged into the T520's SATA 6Gbit/s interface for even better performance. But none the less, the Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD is by far the most effective upgrade that I've ever experienced with a laptop.

awesome customer service 3/29/2015 8:21:27 PM

Pros: Samsung has really good reputation and the ssd drives are awesome.
I returned this ssd drive because I ordered a laptop and that said in the specs it had a space for a mseta drive.
in fact it had a reg 2.5 seta drive .
I didn't even open the box for the mseta drive and did the return online and it charged me 25 percent fee for return.
I contacted customer service and they took care of the fee.
thank you Ed T

Cons: none

Nice Touch Samsung! 3/11/2015 8:59:21 AM

Pros: Fast and small! Height/Width dimensions smaller than standard business card. Transfer speeds using my Dell Precision M6500 laptop range from 50 to well over 80 MBps for large files and for my ASUS Sabertooth X79 MOBO range from 70 to well over 100 MBps.

Cons: Device does warm up a bit during periods of Windows activity, such as refreshing the Index, performing updates, and virus scans, but not to the point that it causes me any concern. Once Windows activity dies down, the device is cool to the touch.

Overall Review: Samsung has outdone itself again with this 1TB mSATA chip. Have mated it to a "ZTC Sky Board mSATA to USB 3.0" and now have a very fast and very transportable 1TB fast SSD that acts like a USB Flash Drive. Have had this device for over a month now and performance has not degraded like it normally does with standard USB Flash Drives.
