It's quite unclear what your question is asking, but I will try to answer it as best I can. As far as compatibility with computers goes, if your board has support for SATA III drives (this is the connection type, look it up) then your computer(console, laptop, desktop, whatever) is compatible. So if your question is "Can I swap out my older, Hard Disk drive with this SSD?" The answer is "Yes, if your motherboard uses SATA for its drive connections".

If you're asking if SATA III is backwards compatible with older versions of SATA (like SATA II) the answer again is "Yes, you can install SATA III compatible drives (like this one) in an older board that has SATA II".

I have a spot for additional hard drive. can I transfer without using a usb connector? Or do I need to purchase the usb to sata connector?

I'm not sure I fully understand your question. Are you looking to use this as a 2nd internal hard drive? If so you probably will need one SATA cable but not the USB to SATA ones. The USB to SATA cables allow this drive to be hooked up to a USB port and used as an external hard disk but doing so will greatly reduce the performance of the drive. The real benefit of an SSD is the speed and ideally this should be used as your boot drive because you will get a very noticeable performance gain.

I had read this drive works with older computers that only support SATA-1/1.5Gbps. Is this right?

I have a question when cloning to this SSD. I originally purchased a Dell Windows 7 computer and then subsequently upgraded to Win 8.1 pro. Under disk management, I see three separate partitions on my C:\ drive namely:  a) OEM Partition (39 MB), b) Recovery Partition (21.15 GB  NTFS), and c) OS C:\ partition ( NTFS). Since my computer has gone through several changes since I bought it in 2012 including the Win 8.1 upgrade, what is the need for cloning, if any, of the OEM Partition and Recovery Partition. Would it not be better to ONLY clone the “OS c:\ partition” (which presumably has the O/S, all my programs and files) and then create a new recovery partition after cloning? Also, will the SSD boot if I just clone the OS C:\ partition (or is there a hidden or separate boot partition?)

If you can, do a fresh install.  Make sure you have your windows key with you. The SSD will make you computer function like a new product so start if off clean if you can.  If you only have the windows upgrade dvd, download a trial and enter your upgrade key there.
