I did not receive a SATA Cable with my SSD. Does this drive simply not include one or was there a mistake with packing?

Question 2

Does the package include a 2.5" to 3.5" tray adapter? What is included in the packaging?

No kit is included, I use one of the cheapie 2.5 to 3.5 conversion kits... maybe Rosewill.  Also, while it's always best to mount properly, the SSD drives are light and don't suffer from vibration issues caused when mounting a traditional drive loosely, so you can get away with some bubblegum and duct tape solutions where necessary. ;) That said, balancing it on top of the power cables above the motherboard is asking for trouble, so use common sense when creative mounting. does this come with software to copy my old drive data to this new drive?

Yes it does. In fact if you go to the Samsung website you can download and check out the software right away. Look for the Data Migration Tool. Alternatively a better alternative would be to download the free version of Macrium Select it is a more powerful and well respected Disk Imaging/Cloning software.

I just bought the 860 Pro 512 and I find I cannot clone to the Pro 850 256 or the Pro 840 256 anyone else had this problem?  I'm using Casper 10 on Windows 10 Version 1803.  I have 145GB on the SSDs

I have never used Casper 10. I would say this is a matter of your disk imaging software not supporting disk image transfers to a smaller partition, even if your data does not come close to exceeding 256GB's. I use Macrium Disk Imaging software, and acronis, and they do intelligently, resize the partition of disk to accommodate for this situation. If your software does support this, maybe something just went wrong. In troubleshooting, I don't think the failure is due to the ssd.

What's the technical difference between Samsung 860 PRO (MZ-76P512BW) and 850 PRO (MZ-7KE512BW) Does the 850 Pro use older & wider memory gates? Might there be some benefit to the the 850 pro over the 860 pro if it uses older  & wider memory gates?

HI Curtis,

I'm sorry that my knowledge of the drives inner architecture isn't that great.  I did find a comparison between the two at a site hardwareinfo, but this thing won't let me include ANYTHING that even looks like a website name.  ??WHY?? Anyway, simply search for " samsung-860-evo-a-860-pro-ssd-review-the-counterattack-samsung-850-pro-vs-860-pro" and you'll find a comparison that looks pretty thorough. It looks like they cut the warranty in half from the 850 Pro, but doubled the TBW which makes no sense.  Why say it can handle twice the Total Bytes Written and then cut the warranty in half? I had my first Samsung drive fail the other day. It was an 850EVO 2TB. It is still under warranty, but still a pain. I hope you can find the comparison I provided and it gives you the information you are looking for.  As a side note, other than the one that just failed, I've had very good luck with my Samsung drives.

Do these 860 Pro's have faster random read/write speeds than the 860 EVO's?

The R/W speeds are marginally faster on the PRO, but the real advantage is that the R/W lifespan of the PRO is double the expected lifespan of the EVO.  In my opinion the PRO was worth the extra cost however the EVO is still very good.

Should work just fine. Use the utility clonezilla, from sourceforge. Allows you to clone your drives. You boot from DVD drive (clonezilla) then select your source and destiination drives.
