Why did you spend 2k on an ssd?

Well, first of all, it was 1.4K (pre-order price), not 2K. Still pricey though, I'll grant you. Secondly, this will go into a new AMD Ryzen rig, that will replace a six yo computer. If I can get the same life span out of this SSD, it would come to $235 a year for the absolute top performance in storage money can buy today. That's a lot less than what many people pay in cell-phone bills each year, and I don't even own a cell-phone. Also, I am so annoyed with those really slow Fallout 4 load-screens, that I think this SSD will pay for itself in lowered stress levels alone. Finally, I guess I am just a sucker for really cool tech.

Is this work in an iMac?

This hard drive does work in 'Mac Pro' and 'MacBook Pro,' including the trash can Mac Pro 2013.  You will need an adapter to use it properly.  On the adapter, you may need to sand down a rough edge or two and use heat tape to block any shorts. Will the Samsung 2TBNVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 work on Dell Precision 7720, if yes what software will clone the existing boot drive?

I don't know if it will work in the Dell Precision 7720.   Lenovo provides an PCI-Express 3.0 adapter in addition to the standard SATA interface -- hence my purchase.  You just need to pull the hard drive cover and look for yourself.   I utilize Acronis True Image software to clone.  In fact, I immediately cloned the 256GB M.2 drive to this 2Tb in the event I have start with a clean windows 10 instance.  My Lenovo had 2ea. M.2 drive positions which made it easy.  I, then, switched the drive start sequence in the bios to utilize the 2tb drive as the operating system.

Not all m.2 drives are the same! You need to check the specs of your machine. It has to not only have an m.2 slot, it has to be a 2280 slot (that's based on the physical size,) and it has to support PCI-Express 3.0x4. Without all three of those things it won't work. If you can fit it, though, it will be much faster than a traditional SSD, and about twenty times faster than a SATA drive. I suggest you search on the specs for your specific lenovo model. That should tell you what kind of slots it has. A regular SATA slot will NOT work. (If that's what you have, an SSD is the cheapest way to boost speed on your thinkpad.)

Does anyone know of a specific cable or enclosure that will allow me to connect this to a usb port for cloning? I will be upgrading an existing 2280 drive.  Thanks in advance, am bewildered by the different M.2 enclosures out there.

I bought one enclosure but the cloning did not work. Instead, i backed up the original drive, switched them, reinstalled windows 10 pro and restored the backup. Much better way IMO.

No, it does not.  You will need to purchase something separately, or install it, then use your old drive over usb to copy.
