Pros: Quiet, super fast, low power consumption, cool. What else is there?
Knocked a good 20 seconds off my boot time, system is notably more responsive. Final upgrade in a Thinkpad T41, replacing a 7,200rpm Hitachi 7K60.
Cons: None really. It's a very nice drive.
Overall Review: Folks, you should not assume that 5,400 rpm drives are automatically "slower" than 7,200 rpm ones. Life just isn't that simple.
A larger 5,400 rpm drive can easily outperform an older, smaller 7,200 rpm drive in most circumstances.
While this drive rotates 33% more slowly than the 60GB drive I replaced, the 160GB is packed on the same size disk 266% more densely.
Now time taken to read or write is influenced by
- time taken to move the head to the right track
- time taken waiting for the disk to turn to the data
- actually reading or writing the data.
Now a 7,200 rpm drive is only faster at doing the middle one.
This drive is easily beats my old 7,200 rpm drive in everyday use because it is so much faster at the third one, because the data is packed so much more densely.
Not to mention this drive has a larger cache, which will sometimes help a lot.
Bottom line - Spin Speed isn't everything, we're not drying clothes here!
Pros: HDD that fits in a laptop with the ATA-6 conection. PATA for those who are not sure. It has triple the amount of drive space my old drive did for about 1/4 the price! gotta love that!
Cons: none noted.
Overall Review: It's a HDD for a laptop, does its job and is pretty quiet.
Pros: I operate a PC repair business from my home, and this drive was purchased by me, but for a customer's laptop. Since it was an older laptop, it also had the older interface and wasn't a SATA. Out of all the big-name computer supply retailers online, and even including E - bay, NONE came close to the price + warranty that Newegg.com had listed for this drive, and 90% of the ones I tried to compare with (for the CUSTOMER..I knew newegg was rock solid to begin with) didn't even have the drive. I felt bad that I couldn't find more than 1 or 2 other places to show her the price here was the best, but I told her no other site would give her the support that Newegg does and promised her that if ANY problems arose within the warranty period, Newegg.com would stand behind it's products and swiftly take care of ANY and ALL problems. Sold her the drive on 1/24/2010 and not had ONE call from her about issues..no problems at all with this.
Cons: Not one single con.
Overall Review: Sad that this interface is a dying breed..but thankful newegg had this in stock and I was able to keep someone from having to buy another laptop when nothing was wrong with hers except for a simple HDD needing replacement.
Cons: failed on me after a few months!
Overall Review: failed on me after a few months!
Pros: Great drive that does what it supposed to! Nice fast & quiet.
Cons: Dead after 4 months!
Overall Review: Samsung was nice and easy to reach.
Pros: Good upgrade for my aging Dell D600. Quiet and relatively fast.
Overall Review: Been using for 6 months and have had zero problems.
Cons: Died after 6 months of use
Overall Review: I've never known Samsung to make high quality hard drives... and this was no exception. It seems to be a common theme that these drives live fast and die young. I probably wouldn't buy any Samsung hard drive again.
