Expectation, and beyond. Create perfect PC environment with minimum noise, and maximum capacity.
Pros: Fast, inexpensive, lots of memory.
Cons: SATA drivers
Overall Review: As you guys know, since windows XP was released before SATA hard drives, it's harder to install OS on the HD. What you need to do is, normally you receive a CD that comes with your motherboard. You will need to extract from this CD the SATA drivers/controllers on a floppy A. Then boot on CD ROM, when the CD will load, it will say press F6 to manually set drivers............ press F6, after, a screen will come asking you to press S. Normally, if you got the good driver on the Floppy, windows will bring you to formate the CD, and then it will be 100% compatible with windows and no need to buy another hard drive, cables........
Pros: Fast Drive, Quickly Detected by BIOS - jumper settings to support SATA 150
Overall Review: I've been using Samsung Drives exclusively in all my replacements and builds for the last 3 years, first one EVER for DOA. I'm not going to dock them too much for that. if the next one's DOA I'll start to wonder though.
Pros: Good drive initially. Quiet and fast.
Cons: A little over one year after purchase I walked into my computer room and all I heard was the heads in the drive clicking. GG Samsung ty for the 50gb worth of mp3's I lost. Never had an SATA die that fast before.
Comments: Bought this drive for my new system. Screams so far, no problems whatsoever. And previous poster reported long format time, mine took less than 10 seconds. He must have done NTFS format rather than NTFS quick. Difference between the two is that the non quick runs a chkdsk/bad sector scan which takes 4ever.
Pros: Well packaged, overnight shipping at no additional charge--Great service NewEgg!!! Thanks!! Bought this drive to match my existing drive in a Dell Dimension 5150--with the intention of doing what the prior reviewer preceding mine did. My Bios has the option to turn on Raid 1, but when switching to the config step after control I command and configuring for Raid 1, I get a warning screen that data will be lost. Dell's tech support is of little or no help, when warranty is up, so I'm afraid to enter the (Yes) command, and see whether the existing disk mirrors to the new disk, or whether I'll wind up with two clean hard drives, and no op. system, and no data?? This new disk is like my older one, (virtually silent, reliable,), installation requires Sata, or Sata II cable, and Sata power cable from power supply, or adapter for two Molex(4-pins To Sata) dongle>. Mounting screws (if needed) were included!! Installation and formatting in XP Pro took 15 Mins. Great product at excellent price--G
Cons: Wish my tech level was higher, about the Raid 1 issue!!! Zero on the product, or service!!!
Overall Review: For an all around general usage drive, this one seems to be as good as anything else!! Unless you need Mega storage space, would be hard to beat price, or quality in my limited-expertise opinion!!
Pros: Great SATA drive. Popped it in my DELL, turned on RAID1, and now I have raid at half the price Dell would charge for it. Thanks NewEgg
Pros: One of the cheaper SATA hard drives out there, and great workmanship!
Fast shipping from Newegg as usual!
Overall Review: Vista would not install to this hard drive, perhaps a bad cluster. Installing it to another hard drive and using this Samsung for data seeks to work fine, however.
Pros: Worked great while it lasted.
Cons: Only lasts two years and is louder than other drives on the market.
Overall Review: This is not just 1 hard drive in 1 computer. This has happened to 4 computers with 4 seperate drives.
