Question 1

Several people have been able to install Windows and boot from this drive. I have tried and tried and cannot make it work, although my motherboard is one of the ones it should work on. ASUS X99-E WS. Does anyone have exact instructions on how to boot with this drive? I undrerstand that I have to set up a USB Flash drive with the Windows ISO and not the Windows Disk. 
I have formatted the XP941 as GPT as well as MBR. Set BIOS to RAID and back to AHCI. DIsabled Secure Boot. Set all pertinent  parameters to UEFI. I have followed directions laid out in ASUS user forums and others. I keep getting to the point where it is about to install Windows, but the XP941 drive in the list says it will not load as GPT

I am trying to remember everything.  I installed on a Gigabyte motherboard with an M.2 slot.  Gigabyte's driver did not work, so I used the Asus driver. I setup bios for RAID and UEFI.  I did not change back to AHCI.  
  Setting to RAID and UEFI only, did not allow booting the Windows 7 (64bit)  DVD on a SATA drive.  So, I hooked up a USB DVD drive and booted from the Windows 7 DVD.  When asked for special driver, I loaded the  latest ASUS driver for the XP941.  
  Windows setup then said, I could not load Windows on the drive.  I went ahead and clicked next, and Windows started loading on the drive anyway.
  I did not have to format the drive.  After loading Windows, I disconnected the USB DVD drive.  My SATA DVD drive works, but I just can not boot from it.  If I need to Boot from CD/DVD in the future, I will have to hook up the USB DVD drive again.
  Hope this helps.  I kept giving up when Windows setup said there was a problem with the drive.  Just continuing anyway, solved my problem -- once I used the latest ASUS XP941 driver.

Does this come with a migration tool to migrate your OS and data from your existing hard to the new drive?

No, it's just the drive in a plain box. But it's AWESOME FAST!!! I would just spend the extra money and get Acronis Backup software to migrate your whole drive. It works perfect. Well worth the money. And migrating to this will be the best thing you've ever done for your build.

Im not 100% familiar with your board, but just looking quickly over the images and specs from the website it appears this will not work with your board as is.  It requires an m.2 slot which the z87-Deluxe/Dual does not appear to have (from the descriptions anyway).  You could possibly purchase a PCI m.2 card expansion that would work.  It would just plug in to one of your available PCI slots and you could plug this Samsung m.2 SSD into it.

    Configurable to 3TB hard drive, 1TB or 3TB Fusion Drive, or 768GB of flash storage.

All of these systems have a 6 Gb/s Serial ATA (Revision 3.0) connector that is occupied by a hard drive in the default configurations. An SSD can be installed in this 2.5" space and some systems support a PCIe-based "blade" SSD, also.

Specifically, as first discovered via teardowns from iFixit and others, if the 21.5-Inch "Late 2012" iMac models were configured with an SSD or a "Fusion Drive" at the time of purchase, the SSD module is connected via a dedicated PCIe connector. Unfortunately, if the system only was configured with a hard drive, the needed connector is not present on the motherboard and there is not a way to add a PCIe-based "blade" SSD afterwards.

By contrast, the 27-Inch "Late 2012" and all "Late 2013" iMac models do have this connector on the motherboard even if the system only is configured with a hard drive at the time of purchase, so it is possible to add a PCIe-based "blade" SSD to these models after the initial system purchase.

Unfortunately, as first determined by site sponsor Other World Computing, the entry-level iMac "Core i5" 1.4 21.5-Inch (Mid-2014) does not have the connector for a PCIe-based "blade" SSD if one is not installed at the time of initial system purchase.

How do I determine if a given SSD PCIe will work in my computer (Dell XPS 9000)? 
How do I determine if a given SSD PCIe is too much for my computer? If it is much faster than what my system could take advantage of?

You can use this SSD under any of these circumstances:
(1) If your motherboard has an M.2 2280 compatible slot
(2) If you have a PCIE adapter card that supports an M.2 (for example, the "Bplus Dual M.2 PCIe SSD to PCIe 2.0 x4 adapter")

To run this card at full speed, you must have an M.2 slot that supports x4 speeds, your XPS 9000 does not support this directly. For your XPS 9000, you would need an adapter card to place into your one PCIE x8 slot.  I am not sure if you could boot from this, it would depend on your O/S and whether or not the adapter card had a bootable BIOS.

will this work in an Asus x99 motherboard?

yes.

The XP941 is compatible with Asus motherboard chipsets from Z97 to X99.

The X99 should should work with this SSD right out of the box.

But just to be sure, update the motherboard to the latest firmware to be on the safe side and also to get the best possible performance from the drive.

The early motherboard firmware from the older chip sets like the Z97 had issues but the latest firmware updates for those seem to work just fine now as well.  For example I'm seeing 1185/860 Mb/s read/write speeds on an Asus Z97  using a 4 channel M.2 to PCI-e adapter card in the lower PCI-e_v2x16 slot.

Question 7

Will this work as a boot drive with a RAMPAGE V EXTREME? I see XP941 MZ-HPU512T in the compatible device report:

Yes it should. I own the X99 Deluxe. BUT! You will have a heck of a time trying to figure out how to make it work on your own. And ASUS Support won't help. Believe me I tried and instead they told me that putting my MoBo in Raid 0 would break it.

First: make sure you have the latest version of the BIOS installed on the MOBO. You can do this using Asus's EZ Flash. No CPU, GPU, RAM required.

The solution:
To install windows on your Asus X99 MoBo you will need to put the windows installer ISO image on a flash drive. NOT The ISO file but the stuff contained in the file. Then you will have to boot into that flash drive in UEFI mode.

Since I can't link you to a good source, search Google for "How to Create Bootable Windows 8 USB Drive from ISO Image"

IT MUST BE Booted in UEFI mode or else it will give you crap about not being able to create a valid boot volume on the SSD.

Will it work with the GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard? If so will I be able to use it as a boot drive, and have 8 HDDs as mass storages?

The Samsung XP941 has no firmware on the drive itself.  For any motherboard to be able to boot to this drive, it must be explicitly coded into the motherboard's UEFI.  The Gigabyte board you list supports PCIE M.2 so it will recognize this drive, but I wasn't able to find specific support listed. Until you find someone saying it works or UEFI patch notes stating they added support for this drive, it would be safest to assume it can't be used as a boot device.

If you bought this from newegg, how did it arrive - retail packaging, oem box, sealed static bag, just loose, or something else?  Anything else in the box?  Instructions, heat sink, etc?

The SSD  card drive came in OEM packaging.  The XP941 is new utilizing the new high speed M.2 interface.  I got mine to work with my motherboard, but took some looking on the Internet.  Main thing was to install Windows from a USB DVD drive instead of SATA DVD drive and only enable UFEI drives for booting in the motherboard bios.  Had to use latest ASUS driver instead of Gigabytes for the card.

Will this work as a Boot Drive using Windows 8.1 and EVGA X99 Classified Mobo?

Can't say for sure with the EVGA mobo as I have only tried it with an Asus X99-A mobo on Win7.  But yes, it works well as a boot drive and yes, it's fast.  I would think that it would work with almost any X99 chipset mobo.  I don't think it matters what flavor of OS you install.
