Does this printer have the ability to print two sided automatically?

It can print two sided - but it prints the odd pages first and then you have to take them out of the print tray and manually load them upside down into the paper tray and hit the print button on the unit for it to print the second side. So - no it does not automatically print 2-sided

why do you call the printer Samsung C-460FW/XAA whereas Samsung and other websites call it just Samsung C-460FW? Is yours a special version with the toner removed? Or what?

I have no idea why newegg.com adds the XAA tag to the model number. It did come with starter toners in black, red, blue and yellow. I've owned it almost a year - decent print quality in black but jams easily on greeting card weight paper and color print quality is not uniform. When it's time to replace it, I'll be shopping around for something better.

Do I need a landline phone line to use the fax functionality?

Yes in order for the fax function to work it does need access to a phone line. The line that I have this hooked into is a digital line that piggybacks on my internet access.
