Question 1

Is this HD as noisy as the WD2002FAEX??

Accepted Answer

Frankly, I hear very little noise, if any, from this drive. I don't know anything about the noise level of the WD2002FAEX?, so it's hard to compare.

The only sound I get is when I access a file on the drive, I hear what sounds like faint "static", as it locates the file, then it stops.

I keep my Mac Pro under my desk out of earshot, so I really don't notice the static. But then, I'm a designer. I play my music while I work.

I had a Seagate that gave out. My computer consultant recommended the WD to replace it. I recently bought another WD 2TB and a 3TB. So far, so good.

Question 2

This is rated 64MB cache and 6.0 Gb/s. My drives are 32MB cache and 3.0 Gb/s. Would I be able to use this drive instead?

Accepted Answer

Hello Mark,

Not sure where the question is coming from? Yes, this HD will work just fine in place of or along side your 32MB/3GB HD.

I use this HD alongside a mix of other WD HD's and SSD, BUT not in a NAS setup. When I set up a NAS system or server environment, I will most likely use RAID 5 and then purchase 3-5 other enterprise level WD 64MB/6GB HD's so all are the same across the platform. This will help avoid future issues.

I hope this covered what you were looking for?

Question 3

I have been looking for a hard drive that works best for H264 DVDs. many do not recommend the green label. is this a suitable drive for CCTV video recording?

Accepted Answer

Sure, although the WD Red series is good for that and a bit less expensive.

Question 4

I want to confirm the warranty period for this drive as the newegg page indicates 5 years at the top, but the Specs tab shows 2 years. WD's website says 5. So, is the warranty period actually 5 years?

Accepted Answer

If this drive is a "BLACK" label, then I believe it carries a 5yr warranty.
If WD web site quotes 5 yrs for this drive type, then it is 5 yr. It is ultimately the manufacturer that will have to deal with any warranty claim. Search WD web site for the drive type, that will give the correct info.

Question 5

I just ordered a different WD from newegg (HD for reliability and good reviews, thought I could stand the noise talked about in those reviews..newegg delivered quickly, great service for other questions) and installed this other WD2003FZEX into HP Pavilion H8-1234 to replace failing hitachi HD--- and this FZEX is so LOUD as I have carbonite backup continuous. I have to get a different drive as its so annoying. Is this WD2000F9YZ quiet as some reviews say-- if used as main computer internal HD if used with continuous file backup? The failing hitachi had *no* noise running, just wasn't reliable. thanks

Accepted Answer

I use the WD as my boot drive and my desktop computer is about 8ft from my bed. The only noise that wakes my up occasionally when my computer auto boot at 6am is the top fan which has been acting up lately. Yes, when the drive is under heavy I/O like MS updates, disk maintenance, etc, there're some audible noises like most other drives. But the noises are so low that you won't be awaken by them.

It's possible that yours could be a lemon because of poor quality control of WD lately. To find that out, you could return it to Newegg and ask for a replacement. If the second one is still unacceptable, then start looking for a different model or one from Seagate.

Hope this helps!

Question 6

Will this drive fit in a Dell T320 hot swap tray? Will it work for that application? What do you recommend?

Accepted Answer

I'm currently using these drives in a iStarUSA hot swap cage and a single chenbro hot swap drive cage that fits in my 5.25 drived bays. Both of these devices are 6G SATA capable and backwards compatible with SATA 3G. I run 4 servers here at my office. All of my storage server (3 of them) run WD RE edition hard drives. 2 of the servers are 7 years old and have never had a failed drive. I have 1 Dbase server and it uses 15k Seagate Cheetahs. All in all I'm running 24 WD RE edition drives and 8 Seagate 15K drives.

Question 7

What is the maximum voltage input for this drive?
