Would it be wise to use this as your boot drive on a Desk Top computer?????

Yes, using an SSD is similair, in that you would get a 2.5 to 3.5 bracket, and plug in like a 3.5 drive. I would use my laptop HDD in a desktop/server if my laptop were to get a drive replacement.

Question 2

Doesn't having the mechanical HDD part defeat the purpose of using an SSD for a laptop's boot drive? Since the whole point of the SSD for laptops is that no moving parts means no risk of damage if it is suddenly jarred while reading from or writing to the drive.

Your question is flawed.  The original and still main purpose of using a SSD in a laptop is power efficiency, not drop protection although it's a nice side benefit.  Power efficiency leads to longer battery life and lighter laptops through smaller capacity batteries.  Unless you purchase a laptop that is an ultralight, you will likely get a traditional hard drive or maybe a hybrid like this drive.

If you are dropping your laptop odds are you will crack the screen or break the case before damaging even a conventional hard drive and it's data.  Most laptop hard drives also now have a drop sensor which will park the head thus preventing a head crash.  I have no clue how these work but apparently they do.

Is this drive compatible with a HP Pavilion DV6-1355dx laptop?

Well in fareness, there are so many different laptop models, and each model frequently uses multiple parts depending on the batch releases, that without more internal specs (like what kind of hard drive it is using) no one can be sure unless they personally worked with the unit, or have the specs in front of them.  Based on the cost, the fact that it isn't new, I suspect this system did not use the faster ssd drives (the smaller ones).  However, it is new enough that I suspect it is a sata drive.  The best way is to open your system up and see if it is a full size hard drive and if it is a sata interface.  If both are correct (size and interface) then yes this will work.   I suspect the answer is yes this will work; why; because it is not a thin laptop like the newer mac airbook, where you have to have an ssd.

If you could find more detailed specs on your Laptop I could give you a more definitive answer.  However, I feel pretty confident this would work because of the size, manufacturing date, and operating system you are running with this laptop

Can I use this SSD to upgrade this 500GB 5400 RPM SATA II hard drive without any issues?

This drive would make an excellent upgrade. It is not a Solid State Drive (SSD), it is a normal hard drive with 8GB of SSD incorporated into it to make it almost as fast as a pure SSD but at a fraction of the cost, hence the SSHD Solid State Hybrid Drive name. It had a program running within the Hard Drive circuitry that analyzes the data retrieved from the drive and keeps the most often accessed data stored within the SSD portion of the drive to increase performance. If the data is randomly accessed from all over the drive the performance will be the normal hard drive performance but that would be unusual. Whatever the case this drive is better than the old drive and performance will improve as the program learns which data to keep in the SSD portion.

Will this solid state drive fit in a Macbook (white plastic)?

Yes, it is a standard size 2.5" drive so it should fit nicely.  You can use any 2.5" drive that is 9.5mm thick or less like the Crucial M500 960GB SSD's which are 7mm thick.

Say I see if your white plastic starts to crack Apple is willing to fix it for you even if you are out of warranty, FYI.

Are there different types of laptop HD's?  How come this one is so much thicker than the one in my Lenovo X230 and won't go in.

Yes there are different sizes and interfaces of laptop hard drives.  I believe you need a 2.5 inch sata hard drive that is not more than 7mm in height.
Sata is backward compatible so you can probably use any, but sata III would be the fastest interface.

Question 10

I have a Macbook Pro 15 inch that is a late/mid 2009 2.66 ghz intel core duo. Will this drive be compatible?

I am very unhappy with the performance of several of these hybrid drives in my macbook pros. They wind up going bad. Its not about the speed of the device, but something happens to the data or the startup part and it becomes useless. I have had several give me problems and I suspect it has something to do with the combination of the type of drive and the macbooks. I have used it on a macbook 15 (a model which was about 2 years old) and 17 (the last version). My advice is to get an ssd for the main drive and take out the DVD and put another drive in there.
