Pros: * slim for an IDE (compared to 4 year old Western Digital 160 GB)
* fast
* quiet
* easy to install (if you know how to install hardware)
* great price for a quality hdisk and size
Cons: oem part, no IDE cables included, no manuals, etc, just the hdisk with jumper wrapped in bubble wrap.
Overall Review: I just replaced my old Western Digital 160 GB hdisk (IDE) with this Segate (IDE), and wow, what a difference in speed.
You will need to have the 101 hardware install knowledge to install this. There are no manuals, extra IDE cable, etc sold with this unit.
Cons: Won't work with XP. XP install disk would not partition drive. Knoppix fdisk partitions it as NTFS, but mkfs reports bad blocks. Windows XP was able to partition and format, but the XP install disk still failed to recognize the partition as NTFS. This may be an NTFS version issue.
Vista partitioned and formatted the disk and installed fine. Of course I had to put Vista on a machine that uses an IDE hard drive. Not optimal.
There is nothing "whisper quiet" about this hard drive.
Pros: This is a good hd its good for what use it for even tho its only 160 gb I plan on buying about 2 more in the future it's pretty quiet & doesn't get hot i hope they keep making these hd for a long time
Cons: None only that this is the biggest size they make for ide drives
Overall Review: Seagate are good hd makers i have a 500 gb momentus 7200 rpm & its 2 years and still works i have had bad experience with wd and hitachi
Pros: 2+ years installed in a 10-year-old machine running Windows 2000. Still working great. My parents' 60GB Caviar was failing, so I replaced it with this.
Cons: None so far.
Overall Review: I bought this drive based on the 7+ years of ongoing good luck I've been having with the 80GB version of this drive in my own computer.
Pros: Installed this drive in a 6 year old desktop Dell computer. Was a GREAT improvement! It's much faster, and the drive is nice and quiet. No problems installing and no problems since.
