Question 1

I am looking for a very reliable HDD to use a as a data drive for my Desktop PC (ASRock Extreme 4 Z77, OCZ SSD for system drive, etc). Is there any reason not to use one of these Enterprise drives for that purpose?

SSD = faster, but much more expensive and hold much less data. HDD = if reliable like these Constellation series HDDs, they will be your best bang for the buck hands down!! If you want to try an SSD set-up, get an SSD for the main drive drive/ Operating system and this HDD for other files/back-ups. :)

Over the past several years, I have been buying and use the Seagate Constellation HDD drives for over 7 years now. They are outstanding drives in terms of performance and reliability. I have had 6 of these drives in different machines over the years and have had ZERO problems or data loss.

I run my drives in a RAID-type set up (constant back-up and data access) and they run fairy cool, even during multiple large downloads (my drives have never gotten hotter then 32C/85F degrees) and usually run idle around 27C/82F), which is very good for constantly spinning HDDs. Sticking to 7200RPM drives is a great way to keep temps stable and still get good performance.

Under Win7 64-Bit, I usually divide them into 2TB blocks/partitions to manage data better, but can be used as a 4TB block.

They are cool, reliable, and have almost 0 bad sectors out of the box. This is great comparing to your average Seagate Barracuda or WD Raptors out there, which come with /anywhere from a few to several bad sectors out of the box.

Want to know if this is a good selection for an extra HD in my desktop configuration? Running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, 32GB Mem, Processor AMD 3.5 GHz.  SS drive for OS.

These are quality hard drives. We use several of these (in a RAID 0 Array) in our server used for nightly backups. They get hammered every day with several TB's of data. We also use them for removing data offsite on a daily basis. Have not had a failure yet. Good choice if you want a dependable drive.

is this drive MAC Mountain Lion compatible? Is is recommended for high def video edting

As for Mac, can anyone input here? I am PC user, but I am speaking to the quality of the drives and ability to do video editing, due to high reliability and drive low temp operation and resistance to vibration.

As these are new old stock that had 5 year Warranty, If I buy now in 2018 does Seagate still give the 5 year Warranty from purchase date?  One review said they were made in 2013 and your site indicates 1 year warranty.

I am told I need ones certified to go with my dell PowerEdge T620 - can that be done?

These are Enterprise class drives and will work fine in any Dell server. You don't need certified drives, but you do need the caddies (trays) to put the drive in the server.

Recently received a new one, not refurbished.  Why does CrystalDiskInfo report  44,143 power on hours?

The seller is lying.  These are used.  The same thing happened to me with all six drives I purchased.

Are these brand new drives? I know newegg sometimes sells recertified or used drives as if they were new.
