I can't tell but does this come with a heatsink?

Hello George. No, it does not come with it's own heatsink. I got the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master motherboard and the onboard heatsinks worked fine with it.

If I'm looking to upgrade my PC later down the road, keeping in mind gen 4 pcie, would I be able to use this on my current motherboard with gen 3?

For the most part, all PCIe devices and computers are capable of utilizing older versions of PCIe, so while it won't run at gen 4 speeds on your gen 3 motherboard, it will work just fine at gen 3 speeds.

Yes, but it would be a complete waste of money. This is a PCIe 4 SSD, intended for newer 7nm Ryzen 3000 CPUs, but your board will only go as fast as PCIe 3. It'll work, but you won't get the full performance it can offer.

Is this SSD compatible with the Dell XPS 9550?

Yes. The specs are M.2 Slot - 1x 2280 PCIe NVMe. You may need to purchase screw and thermal cover to mount in the laptop.

Are the chips on the 1TB version on one side of the board or both?

I have a PCIe Gen 4-capable motherboard (MSI MAG Tomahawk Z490). However, my CPU only allows PCIe Gen 3 (Intel Core i9-10900K). Will I get any benefit *today* if I were to purchase a PCIe Gen 4 SSD NVMe? Or is the generational improvement something that can be achieved if I also have a Gen 4-capable CPU?
