Great hard drive 9/12/2020 8:29:23 AM

Pros: Works well In Synology NAS.
No significant noise.
No issues yet

Cons: Price is more than WD RED and does not go on sale very often.

Overall Review: This is my 4th ironwolf 4tb and all are working great. Heard a lot about DOA ironwolfs and have not had this happen. I have been running the original 2 for 6-8 months now with no issues in an SHR array (synology) and now at 4 4tbs in an SHR array. These do not make much noise at all and heating is of no issue. No big change to electric bill for the extra RPM workload. Would definitely recommend.

Prompt arrival 9/4/2020 11:13:36 AM

Pros: The product arrived earlier than I expected and it worked well in my NAZ. No challenges mounted right away.

Overall Review: Overall it is a hard drive so this is a fairly simple item.
The real tell will be how long it functions in a 24 by 7 environment.

Corrupted files 9/3/2020 9:49:04 AM

Overall Review: I bought 2 for my little raid but 1 of them became corrupt within a week, and also corrupted some files in the process that I could not recover. Of course this was for an important client and the job was a debacle partly because of this issue. I think the problem is probably due to the the 7200 RPM disk speed which will run hot in an array pretty quickly, and is not even really necessary. I swapped with 2 x Red Wolves 5400RPM and much happier.

Acceptable but concerned 9/1/2020 8:13:44 AM

Pros: Drives are priced well.
Multiple sizes available.
Not difficult to assemble large array.

Cons: Watch the break between 4TB/6TB - cache size and rotation speed changes. No way around this.

- One drive out of five died within one week during raid assembly (disappointing - RMA in progress).
- Seagate Drives force "sleep mode" - can't disable that feature through SATA commands(or it's very different from procedure with previous models).

Overall Review: I have a RAID w/ Hitachi and Seagate drives used continuously for >5 years. Thought it best to replace drives. The fiasco w/ WD and CMR drives, plus my own bad experiences w/ WD, left only one major manufacturer for drives. My confidence w/ Seagate products after this experience, plus reading the posts here with DOA drives, is very shaken.
