Can I load software onto a portable hard drive and run it on public PC computer?

Accepted Answer

No.  Windows 2000 and later requires all software to be loaded and registered/installed under Windows through the Windows Registry.  This prevents any un-monitored software from running and bypassing your PC's security software.  And a guest user account on a public PC will not allow you to install software.

Is this compatible with USB 2.0 both read and write? I understand it may need more power for writing

I found that it was completely compatible.  I haven't notice problem with writing to it.

Question 3

Due to the expiration of Windows XP Pro on my Dell(4600)will my USB 2.0 accept this drive and transfer the data while I install a new Windows OS?  Will backwards 3.0 to 2.0 USB need another adapter or preclude this installation.

Yes it will accept this drive,,3.0 is backwards compatible to 2.0,,it will just run at 2.0 speed.

USB 2.0 maxed out at a theoretical 480Mbps, while USB 3.0 can theoretically handle up to 5Gbps. but if your motherboard/usb ports support only 2.0,, which having xp pro on your 4600 i suspect it does,,then,,

,,,,you will need a new cable and new host adapter/card to achieve USB 3.0 speeds,,, but you can still use the device on a USB 2.0 port and achieve typical USB 2.0 performance.

When you install your new windows just make sure you have or can find the Universal Serial Bus Controller Drivers for that computer model,,if you are just upgrading windows, these drivers should not change unless the new windows ask for them,,,MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AT LEAST THE NETWORK CONTROLLER CARD DRIVER for this computer before you start installing a new operating system,,,

then you can go to dells driver site for drivers,,

you may not need any of the drivers for an upgrade, BUT better safe than sorry,,,

What's the difference between an external storage expansion and the backup plus? If I just need a backup copy of my computer files, will both work equally as well?

The Backup Plus comes with a backup software. This backup software gives you the option to set automatic backups. The Seagate Dashboard of this software lets you share all your photos, videos and other files on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The backup software makes it easy to backup all your data online and offline on your hard disk. Seagate Expansion do not come with this backup software.

We can also see the difference in their dimensions. The size of Seagate Backup Plus is 123.4 x 81.1 x 14.5 mm. and the size of Seagate Expansion is 128.1 x 89.1 x 15.5 mm. The weight of Seagate Backup Plus is 224g, where Seagate Expansion is 270g. The Seagate Backup Plus is more compact and light weight than Seagate Expansion.

The another important difference between these two hard disks is about warranty period. The Backup Plus has 3 years warranty period, where the expansion offers 2 years warranty period. Both of these hard disks support USB 3.0 connectivity and both of them do not need external power supply. These are portable hard disks. There is just a slight difference in their price. The Backup Plus is a bit more expensive than Expansion hard disk.

I can say that it works on the Wii as I use it constantly but I don't own a Wii U. My guess would be probably since the Wii can use it.
