Is this an external hard drive that I can use with Time Machine to backup my Macbook Pro?

It sure is.  That is what I am doing.  In fact, I'm using it as a secondary backup for both mine and my husband's Macs even though we each have our own external backup drive as well.  After I update the backup every couple weeks I take this large drive to our safe deposit box because if we were to have a fire and this was at home with everything else, well, it won't serve much purpose.

I really like how sleek it is and that it matches the Macbook Pro case and the external monitor I found in silver.

compatible with 2007 Mac book?

Should be good to go. The Reformatting script was designed originally for 10.4 (Tiger), so you should be golden for anything after that OS. It is also back compatible to USB 2.0, so I would say yes.
If you are any OS after 10.4 than absolutely.

It is a very nice drive and easy to work with. Quick transfer times ever at 2.0

Also, if using MacOS 10.5 or higher, you can simply use the drive with Time Machine by saying "Yes" to the "Do you want to use this new drive with Time Machine" prompt.

Question 3

I'm looking for a an external HDD to simply save pictures, video and personal documents which include Word, Excel and Powerpoint.  I currently have an iMac and a PC Windows 7.  Does this external HDD allow for a simple drag and drop of files to the HDD?

I can only speak to the Mac side because I no longer use a PC.  I use it for my Time Machine back up so its really easy, plug and play.  Then I store it in my safe deposit box so I'm not storing my backup in the same place as my computer.  Actually my husband and I both have Macs, we each have a 500GB hard drive attached all the time and then I use this 1T drive for both of us together and for traveling so I only have to bring one backup for travel.  I'm sure there are other ways, but after cloning my PC hard drive, this is a piece of cake.  I really like the drive because in addition to doing what it is supposed to do automatically, I like its appearance.  Hope this helps a bit.

Can I switch back and forth between mac computers and Windows 8 computers that means sharing same files between Mac and Windows 7, and 8 computers ?

You must install the downloadable HFS+ driver for PC to use the drive interchangeably between your Mac computers and Windows PCs—without reformatting.  This will allow you to save mac and pc created files on the same drive.

I am almost sure that documents created in Microsoft office will open in either operating system.

Everything so far so good with this purchase, I am currently satisfied with the drives performance

I am not concerned about the “social media” storage.
Would this be a good product for me to store my iTunes and protools files? If not, what product would be the best for me?

I, too, do not know what protools files are but what I do know is that I plug it in and the backup is either automatic or I can tell it to do it now.  I'm using it to completely back up 2 Macs every couple weeks and then storing it in our bank's safe deposit box even though we both have our own separate backup drives as well.

I'm answering as a courtesy only to say I'm sorry I don't know the answer.  I use it to back up my computer every couple weeks and then store it in my safe deposit box.  Hope someone can answer for you, however I don't know why you couldn't do it.

I'm happy to reply to be courteous, however I'm sorry to say I don't have the answer.  I'm using it on Yosemite, 10.10.... It is so easy to use and make the backup.  I have a 500G hard drive connected to each of 2 Macs in our home and once/month I connect this 1TB drive, back up both computers to it and keep it in our safe deposit box because the backups won't help at all if we have a fire or the computers are stolen because the smaller hard drives could/would be stolen or burned along with the computers.

The Backup Plus Slim for Mac is 113.5mm long, 76mm wide, 12.1mm high, and weighs .159kg.  I love the look because it is the same color as my Macbook and is very sleek.  I use it mostly when I travel except to update every so often and I have just kept it in its original box and packaging material.  It does take up quite a bit of space, but so far I've made it work.  When not traveling I use it as a spare backup and store it in my safe deposit box rather than at home....

What's the difference between buying an external hard drive for MAC and just buying a regular one and plugging it in my MAC? I need to use it for TimeMachine function, and to save neuroimaging files. Thanks!

I don't own a Mac - bought this for my son - but external drives are usually formatted for the file system of the intended OS. Many are generically formatted with the old Windows file system, FAT16 or FAT32, which can be read by either Unix or Windows systems, but when you buy specifically for a Mac then it's most likely formatted for the Mac file system, HFS, which will work more reliably with programs like Time Machine. The current Win. file system is NTFS and works better with OSes since Windows 5, but not with Unix systems.
