Its plug and play, the Xbox will prompt you to choose how you want to use it once you connect it. I use it strickly for games and copied them all over. Future game downloads are automatically installed on it. Couldn't be easier.

will this work with the new ps4 update?

Probly. It seemed to me that it is just a harddrive. All it needed was to be hooked up and then i was asked it should be formatted.

Is this drive 5400 or 7200 rpm?

Doesnt really matter. Its connected a console not a pc.
