I think the answer is yes.  You do not need to plug it into a wall outlet. You just plug it into the USB port of a pc or laptop and it powers on. There is no additional power cord to mess with

depends on how big your video files is ,but it should hold lots of pictures 
 and, videos . Just add pictures and files and see how much room left on your Portable External Hard Drive.

I've read through the Q&A's. I'm still not sure about something. Will this device be able to backup software (like my Adobe Design Suite), and data files? I'm hoping to do some upgrades to my system, since it's low on memory and running slower, and I don't won't to lose that software which I rcv'd from Adobe via a download. Thanks in advance!

Then again, my system is a few yrs old now. Maybe I should just build a new one.

What it is able to back up will be more determined by what software you use, not what drive you write to. If you're looking for a true image I would suggest something like Macrium. The drive itself will back up anything that's written to it provided you have a way to restore that data onto a meaningful destination. If all you want to do is back up certain files (but no installs / configurations) then a drag and drop approach could work.

What is the RPM speed?

I checked the box and the unit itself and it doesn't say. You might check the manufacturer's website to be sure although I would suspect it of being 5400. As it's USB powered and a 2.5" drive the vast majority of them are the slower RPM speed. Having said that I am very happy with mine and the transfer rates seem to be plenty fast for what I need in an external. If you're looking for a super fast drive you'll need to look at solid state (although those aren't available in 2TB sizes... yet).

that would be dependent on the tv's capability. the better question is, is your tv equipped with feature that allows multimedia playback through usb or is the usb only to transmit power? if so, which formats and codecs does it allow? i suggest verifying specs on the tv manufacturers website to confirm

All USB hard drives should be compatible with Linux. You correct in that it is more of a formatting issue than a compatibility one. If you are going to be working on all three systems, use a NTFS partition. NTFS is compatible with Linux (with some software), Mac, and Windows.
