can this be used in a desktop setup...just curious...?

I bought the Momentus in August 2013 to replace the failing drive in my 10-year-old desktop Mac. Apart from having to reformat for Mac OS, no other modifications were needed.

Last fall, I moved the Momentus to an external housing because I wanted to experiment with a solid state drive. However, the Momentus has continued to serve reliably as my music and backup drive. I've never had a problem with it in either configuration.

If you choose to try this drive in your desktop, just remember to order an appropriate drive bracket, if needed.

Question 2

My original hard drive is a Momentus   ST9500420AS , will this replacement work seeing that the last 5 digts are 423AS vs 420AS?

2.5" drive bays are pretty much standard on laptops theses days. As long as you have a sata connection you are good to go. Remember to keep the screws and any plastic frame bits from your old hard drive.

my hard drive is  ST9500420AS. will this one replace mine?

I believe the 423AS is newer technology, having 4K sectors. Otherwise I believe the drives are interchangeable

I have Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9320423ASG  320GB internal drive  in a Mac Book Pro 15" and want to upgrade to 500 GB.

Will Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500423AS work for me?

It should, but I really can't answer definitively as I haven't tried it in a MacBook Pro. I suggest checking the compatibility matrix on the Seagate site just to be sure. Good luck!
