Question 1

would I be able to hook this up to the wall right next to my bed and be able to swivel a 27" monitor right towards my face while laying in it which would be a 90 degree angle?

Not quite....if you look at the New Egg illustration and note where the bracket mounts to the wall........the distance from the wall to the middle of the display panel "bracket"......is around 10.25 inches so just using those numbers I don't think you are going to get a 90 degree orientation out of a 27 inch display because you would need and I am guessing here...at least 17 inches.....the 27 inch display is going to be at least 30 plus inches wide.....depending on the make of course....so your idea would require some additional work....either extending the wall bracket out and away from the wall with an additional piece of wood or metal....or fashioning some kind of offset metal piece from the intended monitor mount.
 
The bracket itself is actually very very well made and is going to work perfectly for my Acer DA220HQ. I am mounting that device on the wall that my kitchen table is next to. I CAN almost get 90 degrees out of that 21.5 inch monitor but won't need the entire 90 degrees....it will swing to either side of the table at eye level so two people will have touch screen access to it.

I can say this...the "swivel part" does really work smoothly once a nice dab of lithium grease is applied.....otherwise it is kind of "too tight" requiring in my opinion far too much "reefing" of the monitor to make an adjustment to the actual "attitude" of the display panel.

The device is a 5 star device based on price and quality.....I am thinking in your case though.....the 90 degree idea is not going to work elegantly.... I am pretty sure that the manufacturer used 27 inches as more of a "weight bearing" advisory than anything. Frankly though...this bracket is made of such thick steel and is so sturdy....if you had a good solid bite into a good wall stud....this bracket could safely hold a much larger monitor or television.

Question 2

Could i mount my 23.6" LCD ACER monitor on to this? the name specifically says LED/LCD TV, and this seems like a wall mount bracket i could use for my monitors.

I mounted a 24" monitor with this. As long as your monitor is VESA compatible it will work. I would suggest loosening the tensioner bolts on the joints  to make initial adjustments as they were tight out of the box.

Question 3

Does this have tilt? the 360 ball join confuses me, but if I want to mount this above my current monitors (they are on my desk), I could tilt it downward so I can get the correct vieweing angle for the monitor?

It has been over a year since we mounted a monitor with this wall mount. This was for a customer's monitor to see their Closed Circuit Television Cameras via their recorder. I am 90% sure that it could be 
tilted down. It might not have had a 360 ball joint, but it had the adjustments to move the monitor in any direction or angle the customer wanted. Have not had any complaints since we installed it.

Question 4

I purchased a mount that looks just like this one but it didn't fit. The holes did not line up at all. (1 out of 4.
 holes only. The back of my tv has a 3" spacing vertically and horizontally. The diagonally measurement is approx. 4 1/4".

Would this mount fit my tv?

This fit my Viewsonic 24" perfectly.  It is only the second one I have ever done and I thought all TV mount holes were the same.  You may need to question the TV maker

Question 5

I just bought the mount and I'm having issues with the ball joint that allows it to tilt. It's super loose and droops to a downward angle. I can't figure out how to tighten it. Any ideas?

There is a swivel nut right behind the ball joint. Get a low-profile wrench or something similar and crank down on it. Just not too tight or you won't be able to move it at all.

Question 6

Will the mount rotate so that I can orient the monitor in either portrait or landscape?  Is that what "360 degree" ball joint means?

I never have need to rotate the TV.  It looks to me that you can turn it upside down if you so desired. For the price, I found it a good product and it serves my purpose.
