This is an empty drive, I installed Win 7, then win 10.
Still running fine after 2 years!

Yes, it does.
Drive comes factory sealed in an anti-static bag.
It is not packed in a retail cardboard box but otherwise there is no difference in packaging between boxed drive and this one.

Does the drive come with installation instructions, also do I require a program to format the drive, or does it come pre-formatted?

No, there are no instructions included with the drive.  You probably need to refer to your computer manufacturer's support site for help.  What ever operating system you are installing on the drive will format the drive for you.

I have a HP Pavilion Dv6-7010, my hard drive is dead and I want to replace it. Will this be compatible even with my older (4 yr old) device?

I'm no expert, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. The only reason I could see for incompatibility is if your device took PATA instead of SATA, but they phased that out a decade ago and you said your device is 4 years old.

Personally i bought this hard drive to replace the one on my PS3, I guess I could have gone up to a 1.5 Tb HD. next Time, I suppose.  Either way this is a very standard size for an internal hard drive on one piece devices. It will work on practically anything that takes a laptop drive (barring PATA, pretty much).

Yes the  TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA is ready for window 8. That is what i'm useing on my laptop harddrive to this day. It has been a reliable harddrive with no problems. It's the best choice i ever made for my laptop i went from a 250gb to a 1tb drive.

Will this work in a Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7930 ?

Probably.  I first called Toshiba directly to determine if I could upgrade the master hard drive for my Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5130 to this one, and they confirmed that I could.  Then, I bought the drive for less at Newegg.  I installed it, and it works beautifully.  I would contact Toshiba.  They will be happy to help you, especially considering both your computer and the hard drive in question are both Toshiba products.  Surprisingly, they will probably not beat Newegg's price, so just come back to Newegg to buy it.

Is this product compatible with a 2008 early macbook pro?

Yes, It will physically fit because it's a 9.5mm thick drive which will fit in either the original SATA HDD bay or in a harddrive caddy (available here at new egg) that replaces your optical drive for a second harddrive option. 12mm drives won't fit in your/any MBP.
The drive is a SATA 3 but is backward compatible with SATA 2 and 1.
The biggest confusion is whether the 1 gig size of the drive is supported. I just checked around for you and others are using this drive without issues.
(NOTE: As harddrive/memory capacities increase, few product vendors update their specification descriptions to reflect the capability to handle these larger capacities. Sometimes a downloadable BIOS flashing upgrade is required from your device maker.
Almost without exception though, any 32 bit OS can handle up to 2gigs natively, with 64 bit OSes being required for anything larger than 2 gigs.)

Most likely, but I have moved to 240 GB SANDISK SSD drives in my laptops after my daughter destroyed her second drive. SSD is so much faster with Win 10. Use external drives if you need extra storage.

I don't know for sure but I don't know why it should Notp be compatible to your Mac. Just make sure that when you install it or even before you install it that you format it to the max software.
