my TOSHIBA Canvio 3.0 1TB USB 3.0 2.5" Portable Hard Drive HDTC610XK3B1 Black backup says drive is full .... can I either erase or write over the files without corrupting the drive?

It's a normal hard drive, just in a small form factor. You can read and write files like any other hard drive.

its compatible whit window vista?

I use it with Windows 7, and by all rights it should work with Windows Vista since its based off the same OS platform. It also works with MAC OS.

Is this Canvio 3.0 Portable Hard Drive a solid state hard drive?

No, it's a 5400 rpm spinning platter, but plenty responsive and pretty durable.

I have USB2, express card ver 1.0, esata HDMI and ethernet or RJ 45 ports. The USB2 and express card ports will not make full use of USB 3 speeds. Will esata, HDM or RJ45 ports work and do so at USB 3 speeds?

No. It only has connection for a USB 3. Your choices are limited to plugging into the USB 2 port and living with USB 2 speeds, or getting a USB 3 card to add to your system (but yours sounds like a laptop, so I expect you are SOL).
