does this connect wireless to the router or does it need a Ethernet cable in to transmit properly?

No it would need To be wire connected to a router and then wire would connect to another computer etc.

Does this unit include wall mount hardware or holes on the bottom of the chassis to wall mount it?

There are holes in the bottom of the one I got. Don't remember if any screws were.

Can you plug a router into any of the ports or is their a specific designated port for WAN?

Basically, I want to build my own router and plug this switch into one of the routers Ethernet ports and then plug all my devices into the switch. Will it work or does it require anything special?

Any port on this switch can be used for any device.
I tend to plug the router or "daisy-chain" cable into port 1 simply to make it easy to identify but there is no requirement for that.  
Unlike a router which has an "inside (LAN) and outside(WAN)" and thus a dedicated WAN port, this switch has all ports on the same subnet.

If you mean a 100 Mbps (MegaBytePerSecond) network - then yes it will.  It will also be able to be used right from your incoming cable router if you have one.  Many people prefer switches, like this model, instead of just a router, because switches actually dedicate the output port to each device instead of sending all packets to every device and allowing each device to pick out its corresponding packets.  This means less network traffic and a better flow.

Can I mix devices that are connected (I have one that is 100 and the rest are 1000) and those running gigabit will stay gigabit or will this slow them all to 100 speed?

What is the difference between just the standard 8 port switch & the gigabit switch? Why one over the other?

I'm not sure which item is the standard 8 port switch you're referring to but this gigabit switch will transfer data at 1000Mbps or 1 Gigabit.  Some older/cheaper switches only transfer up to 100Mbps.  If you're just sharing internet it won't matter as most people have an internet speed far below 100Mbps but if you're sharing data between 2 devices on the network that are also Gigabit capable you'll get faster transfer speeds between them.  An example might be using a PS3 to play music or video located on a NAS device.  I would recommend getting a Gigabit switch to future-proof your set-up unless you are sure you have no intention of ever sharing anything other than your internet connection.

Is the switch multi voltage capable (100-240V)? Also, is the supplied adapter sold in the US multi voltage? Does it indicate 100-240V on the adapter?

The switch requires a 5V DC, 1A input voltage to operate.

The power adapter is rated for 100-240V AC, .2A input and is indicated that way on the label. The power adapter is made by AMIGO, and the Model # is AMS47-0501000FU

Do I need to worry about unshielded twisted pair "UTP" cabling around my electronics?

You do not.  The old adage "it never hurts" probably applies, but fluorescent lights are the only things I try to actively bypass.  With all that being said, the less overall interference amongst your copper is always best, I personally wouldn't go out of my way however.

Is the adapter and switch multi voltage (100-240V)?

It is powered by a brick that is 100 - 240 volts 50/60 cycle so yes it is. At least mine is. It has been great for me. Had it 1.5 years now no issues.
