Will this work with window 10?

Yes! I have used this with Windows 10 but I honestly only use Windows 7 now. (Hate Windows 10) This USB device is by far and above the best of my 7 Docking stations! (3 are Wavlink) If you have problems getting it to work, update your USB drivers and you will be OK.

Will this pop up on the "Computer" dashboard in win7 and just show a new accessible drive like any other installed drive, ready for drag and drop operations?

This device will show up in "Computer" and also show both hard drive if both drive in the dock.

Does the drive being coppied to need to be formatted before being cloned ?

It  will warn you that all information will be lost and  format it, But I have found that t he results  are better and faster if  you format  the drive first.

Does the clone still have to be as big or bigger than the Master?  My Master was 500 GB (although only 1/2 used), and my new Clone was 470GB. empty. The unit wouldn't do it's thing. I'm not sure if I own the latest version of this unit or not.  Have they changed this limitation?

Unless you are using software, you cannot use a smaller drive to clone/copy to. This device has no capability to copy only used sectors. It copies everything whether used or not. There are many applications that will allow you to resize and use the smaller drive. Google search - "clone to smaller drive"

I want to make sure can  I clone same size HDD or SSD?

I have used this cloning system a lot. I have cloned 3.5in HDDs and 2.5in HDDS and 2.5in SDDs with this using the manual controls and works great. I just recently did a cloning of a 3.5in HDD to SDD without any problems. You do not have to plug it into a computer to operate it is the best. I usually clone 1TB to 1TB drives and have not had any problem. It will just take longer to clone on larger drives just remember. Do not disturb the unit while cloning. Just follow the instructions for manual cloning and go do something else for a while. Hope this helps.

Yes, you can use it with USB 2.0, but maximal speed will be lower

The manual states the target drive must be a larger capacity than the source drive. Ive seen one other person say that as long as both drives are the same capacity it will still work. Is this true?

I use it with two drives of the same capacity with no problems.
