Using My Cloud OS, does this upload my files ONLINE or is this local networking that WONT use up my limited internet bandwidth?

Accepted Answer

It is a local network device. If your device is connected to the same network it will connect directly to your device without using the internet.  That said, you can access it from the internet if you set it up that way, which would use internet bandwidth when accessing it from anywhere other than your local network.

Can you backup a both a MAC and a PC on one NAS with Raid 1 or will I need 2 boxes?

Yes, as I have been backing up data from an HP laptop, macbook pro, imac and PC desktop, and am running both drives on a RAID1  :)

Does this model support Plex?  I didn't see the information in the specs.

I have this model and it work well on some devices that did not need the transcoding. I decided, however, to buy the pr2100 model as it transcodes well. I am very pleased with the PR2100, but I am also happy with the ex2 ultra for cloud storage solutions. additionally, I run a plex server that is holding 7 tb's of music, movies, tv shows, and live digital antenna broadcasting with no issues on my PR2100. if you have the extra cash i would recommend buying the PR2100 instead.

Can you have multiple partitions on the NAS?

I'm not really sure, I don't think so. But I know if you set up a RAID1 then you can select how much space you want to dedicate to the raid, so in that sense you can add a partition.

I created multiple volumes, and only load the ones I need, when I need it, but that is probably not the same as having a partition...

Do the drives need to be the same size, speed?

NO they don't. I have a 2Tb and a 5Tb in mine, configured as JBOD.

Can it hold two 10tb hdd?

By spec no, 8TB is stated to be the max. Although others say they have got the 10TB to work and is supposed to support 12TB at some point. I did the EX4 so I could put 4-8TB drives in it by spec so no issues.

Question 7

Can you plug in additional external drives to the USB ports on the back?

Yes you can.  You can also control network access to the external drive through any user accounts that you setup on the NAS.

The description says this is hot swappable but the user manual says to disconnect power before adding/removing drives.  I would say that the user manual is the correct one but wanted to get any experienced users to chime in here.  Is it hot swappable or not?  Thanks.

Would this be compatible with the MQ02ABF100 1Tb Toshiba SSD?

This NAS is designed to use standard 3½ inch spinning disks. I bought two 3TB WD Red disks for mine, and they work just fine. I Googled the part number you asked about, and it looks like that is a 2½ inch drive - I'd shy away from using drives that don't fit properly if I were in your shoes.
