Please excuse the newbee type question, but are these SSD's ok to be used INSTEAD of traditional hard drives, or do they have to be used in addition to a regular hard drive? And can they be configured in a RAID array for greater speed?

These are perfectly okay to be used in place of traditional hard disk drives. However, these use a different interface called M.2 where hard disk drives use an interface called SATA. You will need to make sure whatever computer, laptop, or motherboard supports M.2 in order for them to be compatible. As for RAID, SSDs are already SIGNIFICANTLY faster than HDDs just on their own, but, as long as you have the right hardware/software that supports it, these would be able to be configured in RAID.
