Is this drive backward compatible to the Sata 3.0Gb/s drives? I am needing this to replace the WD5000AVDS in our Q-See QT-248 DVR

All SATA III (6.0 Gbps) drives should be backward compatible with a SATA II (3.0 Gbps) host controller. Since the new drive is the same size as the original it seems unlikely that there would be a problem. Since you're dealing with an embedded device you might want to do some additional checking. It's likely that others have had to replace the drive in the same or similar model unit so there may be some info online about compatibility with specific replacement drives.

I NEED A REPLACEMENT FOR MY LOREX DVR'S HDD,WD500AUDX-61WNHYC. WHAT'S THE WHICH OF THE LISTED HDDs IS A DIRECT REPLACEMENT. CAN I SUBSTITUTE A SDD?

That's probably a question better directed to Lorex, however, for something like this that is writing 24 hours a day I would not recommend a SSD. I have had memory cards last forever in cameras and such, but I have had them fail in a car dvr and another in an digital picture frame. Similar is the need to turn off defrag when you convert to SSD in a computer to stop unnecessary R/W cycles since they are limited, where a hard drive has no limits.
