Is the heatsink removable?

Yes, with care. It needs a #4 6-point star bit and careful prying to unset the thermal tape inside the heatsink.

Where does this fit in a computer case? Why is it so small?

It fits in an M.2 slot on your motherboard.  If your motherboard is greater than 5 years old it may not have a M.2 slot.  It's small because it's more advanced technology.  Read up on state of the art motherboards.

Is any sort of cloning software included with this drive?

Western Digital has a download version of Acronis True Image for free on their web site. It is not the full version, but it will do cloning. Newegg will not allow me to post the link to it here or even the URL for WDC, but go to the WDC web site under support.

Will this work on a Asus Prime Z270-P Motherboard?

Yes, this drive will work with this motherboard.

You can also download from Western Digital their WD SSD Dashboard for any Firmware updates that may come out & you can run diagnostics if wanted or needed.

Is the heatsink likely to make it difficult or impossible to install this in a laptop?  How much extra bulk does it add to the drive?

Upon reviewing this M.S SSD, it looks to be impossible and difficult to install this into a laptop. This M.2 SSD is used more for regular and gaming desktops. I do apologize for this.

Yes. It comes with heatsink. Heatsink is attached in a way that it would be difficult to remove. Would most likely void warranty.

You really have to do that kind of research yourself.  I would assume if the motherboard has a M.2 slot it would work.  This is a GREAT MVMe SSD and I would highly recommend it.  Go on the ASUS website and look up your motherboard or if you have your machine opened up look for the M.2 slot.

I don’t believe so because the cooling fins would be too large, plus I read on a webpage that Apple uses a proprietary “blade” and you would need a special ssd for that. I can’t list the site that would sell that per Newegg’s request

If one already has a 1TB SSHD 2.5" to what purpose would using this smaller device serve? I have no idea just what purpose this device has unless you do not have a SSD already and need one that would not take up a lot space in your computer.

This unit is MUCH faster than any SSD. A SSD is limited by the SATA bus speed. This one is limited by an entirely different kind of bus that is MUCH faster. Compare the read and write speeds of any SSD with this piece. Not all M.2 devices use this faster bus, though, so beware of each product AND each motherboard they would go in to. Also, this one has a heat sink that is supposed to let it sustain those faster speeds longer. When a drive gets too hot, safety protocols slow it down to cool off. The heat sink reduces that factor.
