1 out of 5 eggsMost Unreliable HDDs Ive owned

Pros: They were on sale when I bought em. That about the only good thing I have to say about these.

Cons: I bought 2 of these 12 months and 1 week ago. The first one failed after maybe 6 or 7 months and the second one just failed today.

If that wasnt bad enough when I called Toshiba to get an RMA on the drives I got transferred back and forth between 3 different departments about 8 different times before I finally got ahold of someone who took responsibility for it. All three departments kept saying that they didnt deal with this particular model of hard drive. Turns out the first number I called was apparently the correct one O_o.

Then to add insult to insult to injury the company wanted me to pay for the return shipping of the defective item. I got news for you Toshiba and every other manufacturer, If I buy your product and the stupid thing fails within the warranty period then you better sack up and make it right. Its not my fault the drives died premature deaths. Ive been an IT professional since the early 90s so dont try and put your terrible manufacturing quality problems on me. Im not paying for your mistakes. I'll pay for my mistakes which in this case was buying these terrible drives but warranty returns are no my responsibility. If you try and make it my responsibility then youve just lot a customer. I almost always stick to WD and Seagate for my HDDs and now Im paying for going against my own better judgement for the sake of trying to save some money.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

Other Thoughts: Toshiba's customer service sucks as bad as these HHDs

5 out of 5 eggsA great drive

Pros: Very quite. Reliable drive. I have been running 2 of these in my desktop system for over a year and have had no problems with them. They are quick and quite.

Cons: None thus far

Other Thoughts: I would not hesitate in purchasing more of these drives. They come well packed in the retail box.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Runs cool, very quiet. Surprisingly fast, averaged around 150 MB/s when I checked it with HDTune.

Cons: The warranty is a little shorter than I'd like, but I guess all the manufacturers have moved away from 5 year warranties. Guess that says a lot about their reliability.

Other Thoughts: So far so good. Using this as the DVR drive in my HTPC, so it gets daily abuse. By the way, this retail version is slightly more expensive than the OEM, but it gets you an extra year of warranty, which I recommend. Spinning drives can fail at any time, I don't care who made it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: So far so good. I've had this drive for over a year now and use it to store my media library. I will most likely be purchasing another one soon and mirror the drives.

Cons: wish they were cheaper, but this one was under $100 in 2013 so I'll take it.

4 out of 5 eggs3/4 good after 60 days, very good performance

Pros: Good price, good performance.

Cons: One failed already, (Device: /dev/ada4, 40 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors). Starting an RMA

Other Thoughts: These are installed into a freenas box with ZFS. Good thing its RAIDed, since one drive is biting the dust. This makes me nervous about the others, however.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost a year

Pros: Excellent hard drive. I have never had a problem with this HDD. Very quite and reliable. I have had this HDD over a year and its still going strong. Its fast, quite, reliable what more can you ask for in a hard drive

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Advice- If you are planning on using the full capacity of this drive (3tb) make sure that your operating system supports GPT disk format instead of MBR disk format. Also make sure that your motherboard has UEFI support for booting to the GPT disk drive. Most windows 8 systems utilize UEFI support. Very important to know if you want to utilize all 3tb. Hope this helps.

4 out of 5 eggsDrive failed after 95 days

Pros: Quiet drives and run great. So far fairly reliable.

Cons: I ordered two for use with a Vantec NexStarMX NST-400MX-S3R. I did a failry large backup to the Raid 1 Array comprised of two Toshiba PH3300U-1I72 3TB drives and one drive started knocking and failed shortly after. The Raid1 Array did not contain more than 1 GB of data prior to today.

Other Thoughts: I will have to go through Toshiba warranty to get this drive replaced. The warranty process for Toshiba is misleading. On the warranty paper it states you can file a claim online or over the phone, however they require the claim to be filed online and calling Toshiba is very useless.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after just over 1 year

Pros: Drive worked great until it didn't.

Cons: I've been using this in my HTPC for just over one year. All my TV shows were saved and watched off it. The drive was only 2/3TB full when it decided to get fat and lazy. The drive still shows up in W7 and I can browse it but it won't play any of my files.

When I try to backup the files the transfer rate goes fast for a few seconds but then drops to tens of kb/s and stays there, never finishing anything.

I had no power outages, I'm on a surge protector, and the PC was never shut off improperly. It worked well for the first year and then with no warning decided to die on me.

Other Thoughts: Don't get it.
