This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Worked for a while

Cons: Eventually died

Other Thoughts: Drive died after a year and a few months... Going back to Western Digital from now on since I have drives from 2002 that still work.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid drive, even cheaper now than when I bought it.

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Bought this drive almost two years ago. Performance is as expected from a drive with these specs, and very consistent. I've partitioned it a few times with no difficulties, and according to the S.M.A.R.T. data, it's in perfect health, having written over 200 trillion sectors. I'm very impressed.

Cons: It's not an SSD, it's "only" 1 TB. Seriously though, for a budget workstation, this should do quite well. As with any Seagate drive, though, keep backups of critical files and check on the S.M.A.R.T. data for the first few months to make sure you haven't gotten a lemon.

Other Thoughts: Keep in mind that this drive is kept cool and well-ventilated in my system, staying below 30℃ at all times. The drive is rated for operation at up to 50℃, but higher temperatures even below that point will still reduce the life span of most hard drives to some extent.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I can't think of any.

Cons: The first 2 drives I got were DOA the 3rd drive worked for several months but now the click of death has started and it won't be long until it dies. I have never had this problem before with a new drive.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a hard drive buy something else these drives are not reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 1tb for the price

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great price and zero problems .
I use a WD Velociraptor for my op systems on all my comps I build . I got several of these these to hold everything else .
For regular storage use ( movies , music , pics , office files , etc ) these Seagate drives rock for the price ! I'll only buy Seagate Barracudas and WD Velociraptors . Every other drive I've ever had either died prematurely or , performed less than stellar .

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Get these you won't be let down .

5 out of 5 eggsit's a hard drive...

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: never have had a problem with any Seagate 7200 rpm hard drive...

Cons: ...

Other Thoughts: i've used both WD and Seagate in many different builds over the last 10 years. WD drives may run quieter, but don't seem to last as long and when they do fail it's a complete fail. seagate drives may be noisy, but seem to last longer and fail kinda slow (you have time to grab files before it dies completely).

Cons: Not a SSD

Other Thoughts: If I had the money I would have got a 500gb SSD + 4tb HDD for my build

5 out of 5 eggsReally Reliable

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I've had this several of these drives for a long time without failure. I consider this a really reliable drive.

Cons: Not the fastest drive in the world, but it is as fast as any 7200RPM drive.

Other Thoughts: This is advertised as a SATA 6.0Gb/s drive. However, it is important to realize what that means: it is capable of using 6.0Gb/s SATA slots. However, no mechanical drive at 7200RPM will EVER come even CLOSE to reaching that throughput. There is literally no advantage to a 6.0Gb/s mechanical hard drive over an equivalent 3.0Gb/s drive. (The story changes significantly if we're talking about SSD's, though.)
