5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU even after 1.5 years

Pros: This chip has been through it all. No matter what I though at it it powers though it with no problem. Granted this may be an aging processor but it still keeps up with the best of them.

Cons: The only thing that I have had a problem with this cpu is the on-board graphics is garbage when it come to gaming. If you want to do gaming just buy a dedicated card and be done with it. It was not enough to take an egg away though.

Other Thoughts: Even after almost two years of use and abuse from me (use it everyday to play games) I still have the stock cooler on it (this may change soon though with my new mobo i got for it which allows for overclocking) It has had some problems with being a little hot but it want enough to harm the cpu at all

On my new mobo (asus p8 z77-v lk) I was able to get ~4.3ghz off of the stock cooler. If you don't plan to overclock ( which I never needed for what I do) if you want a cpu that will last and have an older motherboard that is lga1155 then this is your best bet hands down.

5 out of 5 eggsHallmark of Intel's greatest achievement

Pros: Greatest Intel overclocking chip, temps are just beautifully low, can get up to 5GHz on this thing without a hiccup, forget about what bin your chip is all you have to worry about is if you're cooler can handle the heat it will be putting out, and chances are any $50-$100 cooler will do that job

Cons: None, none at all. Well except that stock fan, that stock fan is truly horrible for anything past stock clocks and even at stock clocks, it can get very hot when doing serious work, which is what this i7 was meant for.

Other Thoughts: This processor single handedly destroyed AMD for years to come.

It cannibalized sales of Intel's own Extreme processor line by eliminating its whole point of existence with the introduction of K-series processors, it brought great value to dollar-per-performance ratio with the unlocked multiplier allowing over-clockers to set it to any frequency they like eliminating the FSB wall that once only-premium paying Extreme edition owners were able to experience, all at a fraction of the price.

Future generations of Intel Core i processors just brought minimal performance improvements for desktop users and worse overclocking performance and temps. Clock-for-clock IB is 5-10% faster but also overclocks a lot worse, same goes for Haswell which is 10-15% faster at most, plus the cheaper TIM they used makes temps when overclocking a horrid experience if you plan on shooting for frequencies SB was able to achieve. If you have a K series SB, stay with it and don't upgrade like I did :)

5 out of 5 eggsModern

Pros: This is a modern processor which is saying a lot given its age.

Let's see what it still has going for it in 2014:
Fast
4 cores 8 threads
Stable while overclocked
Cool while overclocked
Enthusiast grade

Cons: Power consumption isn't state of the art
No ECC support, therefore not workstation grade.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast and stable.

Cons: No cons that I could find.

Other Thoughts: I do not understand why MS Windows and other well known major programs do not make more use of this chip's multi-threaded capabilities. There is so much wasted capacity begging to be used.

5 out of 5 eggsSet It and Forget It

Pros: I installed these in probably half a dozen machines in my architecture firm, and the extra muscle over i5 chips when rendering is appreciable. They stay cool even with the lousy stock heatsink, but cooler with almost anything else. Haven't had any failure or overheats on any of them over three years. A well-made chip that is still state-of-the-art five years into its life.

Cons: I would rather have a $5 voucher towards a real heat sink than the one in the box.

Other Thoughts: I have one at home that I overclocked to 4.0 a couple of years ago out of curiosity and it has never overheated, failed or complained either (it does have a Hyper212 after-market heatsink).

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent processor

Pros: Intel makes great processors. I do light gaming and general tasks with my desktop rig. I also use VMs for various tasks. I got this processor because I do not like to wait. I have been using it for over 2 years and have not experienced any issues.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsAmaziing CPU - Great OC long term reliability

Pros: I purchased two of these on 5/31/2011 - Yes 2011. They both are OC'd to 4.8GHz and are running solid and reliable on air cooling. I'm running EVGA SC 640GTX running Titanfall @ max settings. See my system specs below - I built a system with i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz in 2013 and only achieved 4.4GHz.

Cons: Virtually no cons with the exception that the price has barely changed for such an old CPU. Consider that newer CPUs (i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz) are priced the same. If you are looking for Long Term, this chips bast days may be behind it, but it's more OC friendly then newer Ivy Bridge CPUs.

Other Thoughts: I've not had systems as future proofed as these were. Sys specs when built in 2011 - ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME (REV 3.0) - Cooler Master MegaFlow 200 Sleeve Bearing 200mm - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) - CORSAIR Gold AX1200. Originally had a EVGA 580GTX upgraded to 680GTX

5 out of 5 eggsVery Satisfied

Pros: Easy installation, as always. Not a whole to say here. It's an Intel chip, so you expect it to be stellar, and it is. Overclocking capability, which is nice. Able to overclock without much extra heat (maybe 5-10 degrees celcius). Runs cool, at around 29-35 degrees, overclocked to 3.8 Ghz. Really good investment. Can't say much about the built in graphics, as I use a stand alone GPU.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: On paper and benchmarks, the difference between this chip and it's i5 counterpart doesn't appear to be that different. I can tell you from experience (I've owned both) that this chip vastly outperforms the i5 from the same generation of chips.

5 out of 5 eggsMy Best CPU Ever

Pros: Everything. I cannot think of one bad thing about this CPU. It has treated me very well over the past couple of years. I've had it OC'd before and it ran beautifully. Best CPU I've ever owned.

Cons: None.
