1 out of 5 eggsHorrible packaging of drive

Pros: The drive formatted properly without errors on setup. Copies data from other drives at about 50 MB/s on my machine.

Cons: I am concerned about its long-term health and reduced lifetime due to bad shipping packaging by seller.

Other Thoughts: My hard drive arrived in a box with a layer of anti-static plastic and one ply of bubble pack in a box that was too big for the drive. No packing peanuts. No filler of any kind. The drive was bouncing around as I walked with it. I was amazed any company would do this.

UPDATE: After posting the review above, seller contacted me by email ("Monica, Order manager") and asked if they refunded my money and let me keep the drive, would I remove this negative comment? I wonder how many other dissatisfied customers they've done this to, thereby altering their true feedback rating.

My advice: buy from this seller at your own risk.

Original text of message from Monica: "...If I was to provide you with a full refund in an effort to make up for the trouble and you could keep the drive at no cost, would that resolve this to your complete satisfaction and would you remove the negative rating once you received confirmation of the refund from Newegg? ... Please let me know and I will be happy to process the refund within 1 business day."

4 out of 5 eggsSolid WD - as always

Pros: Number one pro: It's Western Digital (just buy it)
Good seek times for 3.0GB technology. I like that it offers a five year warranty, hopefully will not be needed. I bought this for a customer machine where SMART was indicating imminent failure. It's a somewhat older machine and the customer didn't want to spend a ton of money; at $76 this fit the bill and I have no fear using it. Hey - it's WD!

Cons: Has the standard WD "squirrel cage" noises on drive access but I knew that going in. For whatever reason, all WD Black I've used in the past seem to have this issue. No functionality issues, just a little noisy. I took off one star for this, WD should have figured out how to tame the squirrels by now.

Other Thoughts: Did I say I love WD? Newegg, as usual, rocks. The Seller, Tech Experts, packed the unit well and delivery was fast.
Kudos to all!

2 out of 5 eggsNot really that great...

Pros: It has had minimal failures

Cons: Sooooooooooooooo slow.

Other Thoughts: This drive came OEM in a computer, that had windows vista. I installed Win 7, and kept using it. This thing takes about 2 minutes to start up, and another 5 to actually be able to start any programs. It gets about 10MB write speed.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great out of box

Pros: Simple Sata connection and power connection. Installed Win 7 Ultimate without a hitch. Fairly fast, no noise to speak of. No problems.

Cons: No Cons. What are you paying for a box? It comes in bubble wrap get over it. People like us build PCs we do need all this gimmick box stuff... so no eggs taken away from bubble wrapped. It even came in a anti-static bag, which is better than most.

Other Thoughts: Price is good, easy install for windows. Quiet. If it goes further on sale buy it fast. If it stays at this low cost, then buy it now.

5 out of 5 eggsRAID1 for nearly SIX(6) Years & GOING STRONG

Pros: Have 2 WD RE3 drives in RAID1 in a PC that runs constantly, and they NEVER give any issues. Temps are good, Benchmarks are respectable. The redundancy is for critical data and they DO NOT disappoint.

Cons: None - When I bought these in Jan 2009 they cost more than double current price, but worth EVERY penny; Then and Now!

Other Thoughts: This review is an UPDATE to one I left nearly 4 years ago, and is just to report that I continue to be amazed at the WD reliability of these drives. I have an older Cosmos 1000 case that is HUGE, but handles the largest Motherboards and GPU's in SLI, and the HDD area is laid out like a server rack, with slide out drawers for the Drives. It has these two WD RE3 1TB drives in RAID 1, and also two Ancient Maxtors in RAID 0 for fast Gaming, and early last year moved the OS Win7 64-bit to a Samsung 840 PRO SSD.
These drives are big, inexpensive, and impressive with a proven track record.
I always read reviews extensively before purchasing, and hope you find this helpful. Cheers.

5 out of 5 eggsStill working

Pros: I've owned this drive since 2010, and it hasn't had any problems. Doesn't make any noise and hasn't shown any sign of slowing down, though I haven't run any actual tests on it. I plan on using it for a totally new computer I'm building, 3 years later.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: From what I've read, upgrading to a 64mb cache HDD wouldn't show much improvement unless I really put it to work, which on a gaming rig doesn't happen.

5 out of 5 eggsI like them.

Pros: 16 drives with no failures in 40 months of uptime.

Cons: It makes me grouchy to pay a premium. But, I guess, not as grouchy as doing RMA's.

Other Thoughts: These are attached to Adapted raid controllers.
