5 out of 5 eggsWorks for what I need it for

Pros: 1. Easily reformatted to be used as a computer hard drive.

2. Stays cool, energy efficient.

3. It arrived okay, isn't dead and is working.

4. Easy, as usual, to install.

Cons: 1. Every now and again the drive has to "turn on" to access data as it is a backup drive. It'll freeze for a sec in this instances but no big deal.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to be storage and backup for my 120GB SSD and so far it's kept up perfectly well. I have a few older and resource soft programs, such as windirstat and rollercoaster tycoon, installed on it and they run fine. Has all my music and a full backup of the SSD and it just keeps on truckin. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a backup drive but not as a primary drive. It simply doesn't have the speed for stuff like video games or resource intense programs.

For those who do buy this for a computer, you have to re-partition it in order to get it to work. On Windows, simply download Aomei Partition Assistant (the home edition is free) and use that. Worked first time, real quick and I was ready to go in under 5 minutes.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Solid, quiet drive

Pros: Drive installed easily, has ran for 2 months without any issues. Just what you expect from Westren Digital!

Cons: None (except for the obvious price doubling due to flooding at WD plant) But still a good drive

Other Thoughts: NewEgg's Shipping & Handling speed, plust return RMA's speed are amazing... Their customer service keeps me coming back!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Perfect, quiet drive. I'm getting another, maybe bigger one.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Used as a storage drive, offset to an SSD, and for games I don't care about running on the SSD.

I don't normally write reviews but I was browsing for another drive because I'm running out of space I couldn't help but notice how negative some of the reviews here are and wanted to share my experience.

5 out of 5 eggsPain to set up in LInux

Pros: Quick, quite, works.

Cons: The AV-GP format stuff is a PAIN to set up under Linux (or it was for me). After I finally got it correct, seems to be working fine in my MythTV setup.

Other Thoughts: WD could put out more detailed inst. on setting up in popular flavors of Linux.

4 out of 5 eggsGood drive for the price

Pros: So far no problems with this drive like others have had.
My dvr extender hard drive went bad and instead of replacing the whole unit I bought this drive and installed it and it works just fine.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Seems to be a good replacement hard drive for dvr extenders that had their hard drive go bad.
This is the 2nd WD green drive I've used for a dvr extender drive replacement.
Guess I've been lucky not getting a bad hard drive.

2 out of 5 eggsstupid support

Pros: Got it, it worked

Cons: it died 4 months later (lost all my data)

Other Thoughts: Evidently it wasn't under warranty so I couldn't get a new one... stupid

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Nice drive. Very quiet.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Using this drive in an external enclosure. Keeping music and videos on it for my Home Entertainment PC. Works like a charm. Have to get a thumbs up to to Rosewell Enclosure too.

1 out of 5 eggsPlease Stop selling greens

Pros: Seriously?

Cons: I purchased several batches of 5's of the 500/750 1tb/1.5tb of these drives.
Failure Rates: over 50% DoA or Dead by the time operating system installed and updated
another 25% dead within a few months

Other Thoughts: It is no wonder these are on sale more than any other, liquidate your stock, I guess, but I won't be dealing with them ever again. At least blues seem to have a more reasonable failure rate.
