1 out of 5 eggs1 of 2 drives ordered were bad. EOL Tech has awful customer service.

Pros: Hard drives are great if they work.

Cons: Ordered two hard drives. One drive was bad with too many bad sectors. I setup an RMA with the the vendor EOL Tech. I sent the drive back which UPS confirmed was delivered. RMA number was on the box as their RMA group requested. We never got a refund so I called them about it but only got to leave a voicemail. I never received a return phone call but instead got an email a day later from NewEgg saying the RMA was cancelled by EOL Tech saying they never received the drive. I left another message for EOL Tech's RMA group but again still no return phone call.

5 out of 5 eggsI bought one of these to put in an Xserve that was given to me that used SAS

Pros: Quick, have had no problems in my XServe (2008)[given to me because my uncle upgrade]. I am able to net-boo,t pretty quickly, a handful of Mac over GigE and file transfers are quick. I prefer these in my limited use over SSDs because of capacity.

Cons: none really? its a little loud for my tastes but I can deal with it.

5 out of 5 eggsRead the reviews on the net. Fastest drive on the planet, bar none

Pros: This drive has one speed, super fast.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've owned numerous Cheetahs and nothing can touch them. Seagate Cheetahs are state of the art drives, and the 15k.7 are acknowledged as the fastest made, even faster than SSDs in ALL reviews on the net. The reviewer who complains about his has a bad controller, or is using bad settings, but doesn't know it, and instead blames the drive. If you wait over 30 days to test your drive, it's your fault you can't return it.

I suspect complainer is using software raid or has a poor integrated controller. You need a quality controller or you will not achieve good speeds with any drive.

5 out of 5 eggsIf this is what you need, it's worth the price

Pros: My company uses tons of these in our data center, and if you need both speed and capacity, it's hard to find a better drive right now. I have found these drives to be of comparable durability to other quality 15k drives.

Cons: None. These drives can really save you on hardware costs when you need a lot of capacity at high sequential i/o speeds.

Other Thoughts: It is neither Newegg nor Seagate's fault that the other reviewer didn't test his $500(!) drive within 30 days, and it is abhorrent to give such a bad rating to a product because you didn't do your due diligence.

Bad drives happen, and someone with a reported tech knowledge of 5 has no excuse not to test such an expensive drive within the allotted time (plus, anyone who has worked in a data center knows that 30-days is more of suggestion than a hard line when products are defective, but I digress..). This is a drive that meets very particular specifications. If it's what you need, then it is what you need

1 out of 5 eggsPathetic transfer speeds

Pros: None

Cons: I'm running this on a LSI 9260-8i controller, dual Xeon X5650 (12x 2 cores), 12GB DDR3 ECC and only get 180MB/s reads and about 10MB/s writes - best case scenario.
Have tried various cache settings, write-back/write-through, no cache, direct/IO, cached etc with no noticeable difference. I do not have a BBU on my controller but I don't need one. The BIOS on my LSI allows write-back mode without a BBU.

I cannot even reliably copy a large file with this, speed gradually drops until it reaches below 10MB/s!!!!! I have tried all available stripe size, did not make any difference.

I bought a $500 paperweight and can't return it because the 30 days have passed.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy
