1 out of 5 eggsSave yourself the trouble

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: High 7200 Speed and large capacity WOULD have made this perfect for installing and running all those massive games that eat up so much space.

Cons: Failed after around 3ish years. Sucks to have a drive this large that should have lasted through a number of PC builds fail and lose everything

Other Thoughts: Live and Learn. I guess I'll be avoiding this brand in the future. WD used to be a top dog in the industry but with this short of a lifespan (and it appears I'm not the only one) I'll be looking into other brands from now on.

1 out of 5 eggsA Complete Failure

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: None, really - there are no pros to this drive. it might work for you for awhile but it WILL fail within 2yrs 6mos

Cons: 6 drives, 4 failures at various times. I purchased 4 drives up front for a FreeNAS box I was building. I should have known from the beginning that this was not going to go well but I had previously owned 1.5TB and 2.0TB drives from Seagate without issues. In the first batch of 4 a drive was DOA. I RMA'd and got a refurb drive which was ALSO showing failure after a few days. I contacted Seagate directly and convinced them to send me a new NEW drive (no refurb) because of my problems. (already 2 failed drives out of 6!). I put them in a RAIDZ (RAID5 ZFS) and all seemed well. Fast forward to JUST AFTER the 2 year warranty and I had another drive fail. I purchased a new 3TB drive to replace it and while it was rebuilding my RAIDZ another drive FAILED! I have lost all the data (I did have backups of important documents such as taxes and family pictures and videos thankfully!). I am out so much data

Other Thoughts: Take it from me. Look at the egg ratings. Look at the spread between 4/5 star and 1 star ratings. Look at the rants from those such as myself who have lost data. Look online at the failure rate of these drives. Do yourself a favor, spend 10 or 20 more on a drive with good ratings!

Cons: Bought it on August 8 2012 and it died August 22nd 2015. I wasn't even giving me signs that it was dying. It just died. i can't even get the data off the harddrive because it won't load.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Drives

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap drive but not cheap enough for how long it lasts

Cons: Seagate needs to improve there drives, had them years ago and then had issues and used WD. I decided to give them a try. So I had the 3TB fail at 2 years and 3 months and the 2TB fail at 2 years and 2 months. So within a month I am out 5TB. Seagate used to warranty their drives longer, the reason they now have it at 2 years is because of so many failures they cant afford to warranty the drives. Do yourself a favor and stick with WD unless you want to fork out more money and lose data every 2 years or so.

5 out of 5 eggsLong life

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I won't buy anything other than Seagate, For one reason. They last way longer than anything else I have used and I have used most a least once. I still have an old 500GB from back in the day (2007) and it still works fine I don't use on my newer machine because time would say it could go any minute. Thing is hasn't. I respect a company that builds things to last.

Cons: None really, runs quiet no problems. This one I am commenting on is over 4 years old and I am not replacing it any time soon.

1 out of 5 eggsunreliable garbage drives

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Nothing. Drive died JUST outside of warranty and the rude Seagate customer service rep was no help at all. I guess the pro was that the call was short because he just wanted me off the phone.

Cons: I've been a loyal Seagate customer for years, after one too many WD drives failed on me, like 15 years ago. I called thinking i still had some warranty left and the rude agent said nope, it had JUST expired. You'd think they might go a little above and beyond for a loyal customer and honor the warranty so close to expiration, but i guess they'd rather lose me as a customer altogether.

AVOID SEAGATE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!

Other Thoughts: just really disappointed in Seagate's quality and customer service. What was once a decent company is now garbage like the rest.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk Drive - Died one month after warranty.

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: it worked for a while

Cons: died shortly after warranty expired.

Other Thoughts: Guess what everyone says about seagate is true. Called because i thought it was still covered and it was JUST outside of warranty. I've owned countless seagate drives and they've always lasted beyond my expectations. This drive way babied and kept very cool. Hardly used at all. Basically long term storage for a few hundred gigs of data. I figured being so close, seagate would still honor the warranty.. what's it really cost them to keep a loyal customer happy? Too much i guess and now all my drives will be WD. The surly customer service rep wasnt very friendly and inspire me to stick with seagate. Bummer.

1 out of 5 eggsFail and Fail Again

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: They are cheap as in inexpensive.

Cons: They are cheap as in quality. I bought 3 drives for a RAID 5 configuration and in the period of just over a year, all 3 drives have failed. I will not buy Seagate again. I am switching to HGST.
