1 out of 5 eggsReceived DOA - awaiting replacement

Pros: The specs and previous reviews on this drive were all excellent, and enough to make me spend almost 50% more than other similar drives.

Cons: I received this drive and went to install it the next day, and it was DOA. The drive made a random scratching noice, but would not spin up and could not be recognized by Acronis. I contacted tech support for assistance, and received less than pleasing results. They did send me an RMA and shipping label, but will have a replacement to me in more than 5 days, in the mean time I am sitting waiting and hoping. Tech support would not send a new drive until they had received the old one and even then, they said it could take another 3-5 days.

5 out of 5 eggsNot just for video surveillance!

Pros: Excellent sequential read OR write performance, 100MB/second.
Excellent for video editing.
Small enough to fit in laptops including many CD-ROM bay caddies to allow for dual-1TB drive RAID setups.
16MB cache on a 1TB drive helps greatly with random read/write performance.

Cons: Power draw is higher than some alternatives, so battery life will suffer if you use this drive a lot on battery.

Other Thoughts: If you're a power user trying to set up a workstation-grade laptop with all the fixings, this is an excellent drive to use one (or two! It's small enough it fits in CD-ROM bay caddies!) alongside an mSATA or other SSD boot drive.

5 out of 5 eggsBiggest Cache For LapTops

Pros: I bought an external hard drive enclosure (USB-3/eSATA-2) knowing that it would only power a 5400 RPM hard drive, the HDD needed to be 9.5" high and that a bigger cache would be more important than a faster spin rate. I notice NewEgg still list 15mm tall hard drives as LapTop accessories but they won't fit in any LapTops that I know of. This HDD will fit in any LapTop, use the least power with the exception of my HyBrid under certain conditions(like reading small files still in it's solid state part) and it's the fastest of the low power consumption HDDs.

Cons: Can't buy anything with this in it.

Other Thoughts: It would be good in my HyperDrive rechargeable card reader if it was PATA instead of SATA but when I do buy a HyperDrive with a SATA or mSATA connector I'll put one of my old Solid State Drives (that reads at around 600MB per second) so it's close to the limit of the USB-3 it will have to have.

5 out of 5 eggsoutstanding drive - fits any laptop

Pros: outstanding drive, fast quiet huge. some things are worth paying extra for.

I ran several days of surface tests with zero errors, before putting it into use.

Fast = 100 MegaBytes per second sustained write, when using eSATA.

Cons: why the heck would they discontinue this wonderful drive?? :-(

Other Thoughts: hard disks are not the place to get the cheapest because your data is worth a lot.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable...so far

Pros: Very large capacity, quiet most of the time, only 9.5mm can fit in pretty much any device.

Cons: Once in a while is making an intense noise like is searching really hard or defragmenting...about every 15 min or so and it lasts for 1-2 seconds.

16MB Cache does a pretty good job when transferring large amounts of data.

No problems at all after 4 months of ownership.

Other Thoughts: I'm using it as a secondary drive for storage mainly since I have a SSD as a boot drive in my ASUS G73JW 3D R.O.G laptop

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: 16MB Cache

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Installed in HP Pavillion M7-1015DX. I installed an Intel 160GB G2 SSD as the boot drive so this was a great drive for the secondary bay. (Media storage)
