5 out of 5 eggsIt works

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: It works. That's all you need from this drive.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Don't set this drive up as your main drive, you should have an SSD for that (or WD black @7200rpm). This works great as data storage.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Runs cool and silent.

Cost per gig is good when on sale

Cons: Priced slightly higher than other brands with better performance. I only buy when on sale.

Other Thoughts: There's nothing new to write. It's quiet, cool, has WD quality, etc.

WD drives have been my #1 choice for years. Any drive can and will fail but WD is the most reliable brand I've ever used.

1 out of 5 eggsDead Dead Dead - I won't be ordering WD anymore

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: none I gave it one egg because newegg won't allow a no egg submittal - there should be a minus egg!!

Cons: This is my 4th WD drive. The other three died soon after the "Warrenty" expired. This one was dead on arrival with the common clicking noise. Suggest you avoid WD dirves until they improve their warrenty and quality process.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Gerald, we want to extend our sincere apologies for the issue you have experienced. Our goal is to provide world class customer service, and part of that goal in this situation would be to replace your drive, and investigate the cause relating to the products defect.

1 out of 5 eggsBad blocks out-of-box.

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Relatively inexpensive for a 2TB drive. While the drive idled (and I can only assume it was actually working), it was quiet and ran relatively cool. Naturally, as it was a failed drive, it's hard to tell whether this was normal.

Cons: The drive was non-functional out of the box.

A possible sign of impact damage was noted on corner of metal lid upon opening the packing protection; it looked as if the very corner of the flat lid overhang was bent downward. In retrospect it's hard to determine whether this was actually the normal shape of the lid (I don't think it was) or whether it had anythinng to do with the failure.

The drive would not format (2x1TB partitions) on MacOS X in an external LaCie enclosure; formatting errors were encountered while using Disk Utility. I swapped enclosures to a Thermaltake "toaster" and tried again, at which point I was able to format a single 1.8TB partition to HFS+. Disk Utility would experience random crashes, however, and reading the Console log suggested it was something on the device side. USB bus was occasionally not enumerating, etc.

I changed gears and switched to Ubuntu. I could mount the drive and recognize the HFS+ partition. However, the drive failed self-tests (read-back errors) in Ubuntu's "Disks" application, even though the SMART status was OK. I tried re-formatting to a filesystem that Ubuntu could write to: formatting to FAT32 failed several times under gparted ("Disks" has a known bug in 13.10 when formatting), and formatting to ext2 took longer than normal, although it was successful. SMART errors (bad sectors) were now seen on the ext2 volume and self test failures (readback errors) were still noted using several tools. I ran "badblocks" and gave up when the number of badblocks reported was in the dozens.

The drive is toast.

Other Thoughts: Drive was RMA'd to Newegg.

I've gravitated to WD drives over the years, and I've had luck with them, mostly long-term. This kind of infant mortality is disappointing. I'd read of some similar issues with the WD Green drives - as well as others, including the Red - and I thought I'd take my chances.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Joseph, we want to extend our apologies for the issue you have experienced. Please note that all Western Digital products are tested and determined to meet WD's stringent quality standards before they are shipped to our retailers. There are many variables that could affect the drives integrity between leaving our warehouses prior to being installed in a computer. If we can be of any assistance to you at any time, please contact us at (800) 275-4932, or via our support website at: http://support.wdc.com/rs

4 out of 5 eggsGood storage drive

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This is a good storage drive for light use. I store my music, pics, and other important docs. Ive had this drive since 2009. Its still paired with a blue bought in 2008. Both drives are in their 3rd system. I should buy 2 more. Theyre getting old.

Cons: Its not very fast. But the intended use is storage, not a main drive. Blues are better main drives.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Two drives worked

Cons: Two drives didn't

Other Thoughts: I bought two Blue drives and two Green drives together. Both the blue drives worked, but both the Green drives were DOA. One had a particularly loud repetitive rev to it followed by a hard click. I find it hard to believe these two drives, especially the latter, was ever tested. I think some of these WD drives are Hail Marys (I've had to return two WD drives before, both raptors). incidentally, both the Green drives were built on 8 March 2014.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer, we apologize for the inconvenience as this is not the intended experience for this product. Please be aware that WD hard drives are precision instruments that can be affected by rough handling, vibration, or electrostatic discharge (ESD). All Western Digital products are tested and determined to meet WDs stringent quality standards before they are shipped to our retailers. We understand your situation and will gladly replace your in-warranty drives directly, as we stand by our products and their associated warranties.

5 out of 5 eggsIts ROOMEY

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Its two TB!! Its Sata!! Its.....blaa blaa blaa.
I like it. I plugged it in and it worked and I loaded windows on to it. That is pretty pro to me.

Cons: On the scale from 1.0 to 7.9 for the
Windows experience index, my computer rated 5.9 for the category - disk data transfer rate.

Maybe this drive has nothing to do with that but I think it does. All my other scores were in the mid to upper sevens.
