5 out of 5 eggsNot a bad deal

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Reasonable bang for the buck. Nice size. Works great as a media storage drive, or for burstcoin mining.

Cons: It is a Green drive, which means it is on the lower end of WD's quality scale.

Other Thoughts: Keeping in mind that it is a Green drive, don't put un-replaceable data only on it. But for what it is, it isn't too bad of a deal.

4 out of 5 eggsWD20EZRX 2TB

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - it's big, as in 1.81TB of usable space
- it's fast
- it's was on sale

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: partition and format w/WD flavored Acronis was painless.
this is a bare drive, and people are returning drives because they aren't already formatted. some are even saying that in reviews.

1 out of 5 eggsdead on arrival

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: none

Cons: Drive never worked. It was DOA.

Other Thoughts: Installed the new drive. It failed while doing the initial format and data copy. Ran WD's own diagnostic tests. It failed the extended test.
Contacted WD support for a replacement. They agreed to RMA the drive but return shipping is at my expense. I think a brand new drive that has never been used should not cost me shipping expenses.

4 out of 5 eggsFairly reliable

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I set up a windows storage space with 4 of these and ran it for about 2 years before one was flagged as dying by windows; replaced with another paid and expanded storage.

Cons: 1/4 was flagged as bad after a couple years but it is still working, just pulled all data off of it due to the flag.

1 out of 5 eggsHigh Failure Rate--NOT WORTH THE RISK

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: With such high failure rates, there is not a single pro. Even when used as intended, these drives are NOT WORTH THE HIGH RISK OF FAILURE.

Cons: High failure rate. NOT WORTH THE RISK. Only 2 year warranty and cost per GB.

Other Thoughts: NOT INTENDED FOR RAID SOLUTIONS! If RAID application is your goal, you should be looking at other WD lines such as RED, not GREEN. Straight from the data product sheet for these HDDs:
"WD Green hard drives are tested and recommended for primary use in desktop and All-in-One PCs, as secondary storage for archiving, in external cases or as reliable backup storage. Desktop drives are not recommended for use in RAID environments. Please use WD Red™ storage for NAS or RAID applications."

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Quite, no vibration in my external hdd enclosure, and great transfer speed compared to older drives even at 5400 rpm.

Cons: Bought 2 and 1 failed while formatting but newegg replaced with great rma service and the replacement is running great.

Other Thoughts: Hope they last, they are only on about 30 minutes or less, long enough to backup movies and not that often.

1 out of 5 eggsHigh failure rate on my order

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Quiet, reasonable speed. Green is a fairly pretty color. 1 out of the 4 that I ordered is still working after one week.

Cons: I ordered 4 of these to add to a linux software raid of previous wd green drives. The previous green drives have been chugging along for years with no issues. Out of the 4 I ordered one was DOA, made clicking noises when plugged in. Another failed after about 30 minutes of copying data to it. I returned these two(and had to pay 12 dollars shipping, thanks newegg!). A third drive failed after another two days. I don't know whether this was a bad batch, or whether they were handled poorly in transit. Either way the experience was not good.
Both drives that failed after copying data failed with SMART errors about re-allocated sector count exceeding acceptable thresholds.

Other Thoughts: I've used green drives in linux raid setups for years without issue, this is the first time I've had a negative experience with them.
