1 out of 5 eggsNOT recommend

Pros: I got this because of the USB3.0 ports and 2.4ghz 5.0ghz

Cons: 1.>USB 3.0 port will slowdown/freeze the network(interference the wireless). 2.>wireless connection shows full bar on pc but don't get a internet connect 25ft away from the pc to the router. it is not the IPS issue. if I have my laptop next to the router, I got 50mbs/25mbs internet speed.

Other Thoughts: too expensive and not worth. I used to have an Apple Air base router and it has no issue at all.. will not but Asus product again.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsWireless

Pros: When it works covers house O.K. Like all the features.

Cons: Would lose signal to half the house at first for an hour or 2. Now half the day. RMA it to ASUS luckly I had a tracking #. After 2 weeks still can't find it. Using my old Netgear I had for years, works like a charm

5 out of 5 eggsBest Router I have had

Pros: Software user interface gives a lot of options and is easy to navigate. It is able to handle all of the devices that are connecting to it and haven't run into any issues of it assigning devices with a different MAC address the same IP address (like the other 2 devices that I have had in the past, not ASUS brand). Get good reception in areas of my house that were problematic in the past. Nice looking, sleek, futuristic design.

Cons: Can't think of any. I am completely satisfied

5 out of 5 eggsSolid purchase

Pros: Fast. Doesn't drop like my high end D-Link router did. Solid range.

Cons: A little expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: I'd highly recommend this router

1 out of 5 eggsLivid with this useless device

Pros: Looks cool

Cons: I ordered this when my existing Linksys router began having trouble keeping my household online. I spent the money on 2 day shipping since all our entertainment comes online. It took three days for it to leave the warehouse and 4 more days to arrive. Minus 2 eggs. When I finally got it, setup was fairly easy and I got both radios set up on separate SSIDs, did some basic configuring, and everything got online. Ran my media through 5gHz and laptops through 2.4. Hooray. Five minutes later the first laptop client dropped. Then the next. Then the media. I played DHCP hopscotch the entire evening with everyone complaining that they couldn't stay connected longer than 20 minutes with some sessions ending in under 5 minutes. I've set up extended wireless networks with 48 separate SSIDs spanning 20 different devices spread over 3 square miles and have never seen anything like this. Minus 3 eggs.

Turns out the USB 3.0 ports aren't shielded so IF you have a USB plugged in it creates enough interference to squash the 2.4 radio. This wasn't my issue as I have no USB plugged in, but I find it assinine that ASUS would incorporate a value added feature that disables the core competency of the base device. Good Job. Minus, like, a dozen more eggs.

For the record, I just lost my connection to this router twice while I've been writing and it has yet to reconnect since the last drop. My wife can't work from home, Netflix won't play a full episode of anything, and my phone has accumulated way more data usage than I'm comfortable with since it switches automatically to 4G when the wireless takes a s#!t.

Long story short, this is a BAD PIECE OF HARDWARE.
Avoid.
At all costs.

Other Thoughts: I should've stuck with Cisco

5 out of 5 eggsAsus router

Pros: Lots of features - vpn, can setup cloud disk and access videos, pictures, files from anywhere using the aicloud app on android phones, and probably apples. Can send friends links to pictures, files on cloud disk
Dual band, can create 2 separate lists of MAC addresses so you can filter on each band (2 and 5 Ghz)
Gigabit Ethernet ports- I noticed a slight speed increase in gaming
I think its good looking

Cons: 2Ghz band is a bit slow until you enable the Reducing the USB 3.0 inference option under the professional tab in wireless. You will definitely want to enable this if you have a wireless repeater

Other Thoughts: Lights are a little too bright but I just face it towards the wall so I can sleep at night

5 out of 5 eggsHUGE difference over AT&T router

Pros: LAN data rates. I can now do things I never could before! EASY setup.

I stream PLEX to a Roku 3 and Roku 2XS @ 20Mbps
WHILE
Downloading at 2.5Mb/sec
WHILE
Watching hulu in another room!

Cons: built in FTP is "bleh" and usb HDD files haring is limited at best. Don't buy this for the "features" you could spend a little more and get what you are looking for. Not a CON for me, but I was slightly disappointed at the usb HDD.

Other Thoughts: If upgrading from U-verse or a 2WIRE ISP-provided modem/router, simply install using the LAN out of the ISP modem/router to WAN on the RT-n65u. Then, go into the ISP router and either set it to bridged mode, or place the MAC address of the ASUS RT-N65U in the DMZ. Now you can use the router as if it were wired directly.

5 out of 5 eggsThis Router just works....

Pros: I have worked with numerous routers and this one is one of the best. Yeah, price can be considered High, but you get what you pay for!!!

Cons: The USB port is good for sharing a hard drive, just anything of 2TB needs to be formatted right.

3 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 makes the wireless unstable

Pros: Stable and reliable, when not using USB 3. Decent range and speed. Relatively easy to setup

Cons: USB 3.0 renders the wireless unusable, thus making the USB 3.0 ports useless. Not so great support from the company. Poorly designed firmware updates. A little advanced for many setup option

Other Thoughts: I specifically purchased this router because of it's 2 USB 3.0 ports. I plug in external drives with media for streaming. Unfortunately, I have since learned that USB 3.0 causes interference on the same band as the wireless, thus, the signal becomes unstable as long as any USB 3.0 device is plugged in. Had this not been the time that it is, today, a period in time where tech is rushed to market based on PROMISE rather than RELIABILITY, this would've shocked me. Sadly, this is the state of tech today. It is beyond me how something with such an obvious design flaw could be pushed upon the public. Without any USB 3.0 devices plugged in, the router works fairly well. Range is decent, speed is good, but seriously, when you advertise a key competitive feature, wouldn't it make sense to design it so it works???

There is also a problem with the latest firmware. Once you update to it, it will no longer check for future updates through the web interface. You'll have to check manually on their site. Also, the release notes state that it now has the ability to run a Check Disk on an attached USB drive. You do not, this is false, and their Tech Support has been USELESS addressing either issue.

I tried purchasing a shielded USB 3 extender, and tried placing the drive down below, away from the router, but it appears the interference problem remains. I bought this one:
