5 out of 5 eggsGreat box for the price

Pros: -Cheap!
-Small
-LOW POWER! (9.25W @idle,~ 30W @100% CPU)

Cons: -Lacking processing power

Other Thoughts: I bought this to set up a windows 8 box running hyper-v with a virtual linux server. This is only for personal use. This box does everything great, until you throw some real work at it. That's when it falls flat on its face. Windows update constantly hangs because it just doesn't have enough processing power. It's just slow, and you must be patient. But hey, this is a Celeron processor, so for the price, this is awesome. I figure I can just upgrade the machine to a better one, if I ever need more processing power. Easy swap of msata drive and memory into new box.

I put a Mushkin Atlas 120GB msata SSD along with 8GB of Corsair value memory. Windows 8 takes less than 9 seconds to boot.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Kit for Openelec

Pros: Quiet, plenty fast as an HTPC. Combined with an mSata drive, runs Openelec lightning fast. Have had no issues playing everything I've thrown at hit. Very happy with my purchase. Highly recommend!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small and easy to install. Great as a HTPC. Works Flawlessly on Linux Mint 15. Plays 1080p Video with ease.

Cons: First Installed Windows 7 and XBMC on the NUC. A lot of videos played well with the exception of VC-1 encoded videos. They were unplayable. After doing research found that it was the Intel Drivers for Windows. If you turned off the Video Acceleration (DXVA2) in XBMC, Video playback would work well. The problem is 1080p playback had some issues, although it played 720p just fine. I removed an egg because of Intel's lack of support on their own graphics card for windows.

Other Thoughts: I found out that the drivers for Linux worked flawlessly. So I decided to wipe the drive and put Linux on the NUC. After Installing Linux and intel graphics drivers the system worked extremely well and felt even faster.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for HDTV

Pros: Small, quite, powerful to decode ANY HD video - 720p, 1080p, Blu Ray, 3D frame packed Blu Ray., HD audio pass through over HDMI c apable,

Cons: Only three UBS ports, if you need more - get a hub.
No power cord, however it is a barebone, you need to get your memory, msata hdd and mouse/keyboard remote separately as well.

Other Thoughts: Do not be fooled by 1.1Ghz Celeron 847 processor. It plays very little role while watching a movie. Intel HD 4000 video processor is super powerful and can decode anything. Just get appropriate software with hardware decoding enabled - Power DVD, CCCP codec pack or similar.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for Certain Uses

Pros: For the size and price, this little thing can pack a punch and fit anywhere. It's great for kiosk devices (what I use it for at work) as well as a small computer for the casual PC user.

Once you buy all of the items you need to build one of these, Windows 7 boots extremely fast on this. The drivers can be easily found on Intel's website. Update the BIOS right away, though, the out-of-box version sucks.

Celeron with Intel HD 4000 these days easily outperforms the AMD Fusion series.

i3 and i5 versions are available with additional features in addition to the higher-speed processor (USB3, Thunder Bolt, better HD 4000 series GPU).

Cons: Does not include power cable, although it does include the power supply. You need to buy the 3-prong power cable, sometimes called the "Mickey Mouse" power cable.

GPU is not upgradeable. This goes for all NUC models. Like a laptop, you're stuck with what's out of the box, in this case it's the Intel HD 4000 series (more powerful based on which CPU you chose).

No audio port (headphones, speakers). The audio only comes out of the HDMI port. You'll have to invest in a USB sound card or stick with an HDMI solution for audio.

Gets hot if not ventilated well enough.

Out of the box, comes with a problematic BIOS (drivers may not recognize devices). Update the BIOS right away.

Other Thoughts: The box includes: NUC case, CPU, motherboard, power supply (no cable), instructions, Intel CPU sticker.

Internally, you have the following ports: 2x DDR3 SO-DIMM, 1x miniPCIe (full length), 1x mini-PCIe (half-length). It also has two WiFi antennas pre-installed in case you buy a WiFi card.

You need to buy at least 3 additional items to make this functional: RAM (DDR3 SO-DIMM), mSATA SSD (uses full length mini-PCIe slot) and the 3-prong power cable (aka "Mickey Mouse" power cable).

Additional items you might want to consider are: half-length mini-PCIe WiFi card (it includes two antennas internally), USB sound card, USB hub (powered).

This is not a desktop replacement for power users. Look into the i3 or i5 models for that. But it can be a desktop replacement for the casual user, and makes a good kiosk device and rudimentary HTPC.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough

Pros: I was planning to build an HTPC for my house, I found this Nuc perfect for the job because of its low price and form factor.

I can stream without any troubles HD videos and Full HD videos through my WLAN.

With an SSD a 4GB its pretty responsive.

Cons: There are no USB 3.0 ports.

You have to buy ram, SSD and Wireless card in order for the nuc to work.

Its really weird that they invest money in a box that makes an intel sound when you open it but they don´t include a power cable

Other Thoughts: If you are planning on watching HD video y recommend VLC player o XBMC. Ive found I can play HD videos very nicely while mantaining the processor cool.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate the BIOS

Pros: Small and inexpensive. Just enough for the job at hand.

Cons: Needs a BIOS update out of the box, to be reliable. Not everyone will notice/think of that.

Other Thoughts: Purchases this to be the Hamachi gateway for remote clients to tap into the office network. Installed Win7 Pro on it, and had immediate difficulties downloading driver updates. Had to use sneakernet to get drivers installed, and still had networking issues.

Turned out it needed a BIOS udpate, and then the network was rock solid, and been good ever since.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great product, bought 6. Mounts off the back of monitor VESA mounts and runs great. Matched with a decent SSD you can get a nice desktop. I used these to replace a set of Asus EEE desktops and they are quicker than the Atom processors. These NUCs aren't going to have i3 performance but it can handle multitasking well.

Cons: Runs warm. Black aluminum trim gets warm but there are no stability issues. Maybe it is also heat-soaking from the LCD panels they are attached to. I don't own the other processor powered NUCs so I don't know if this unit runs hotter than others.
