Direct Digital Connection: The Cleanest Your iPod Can Sound
The front-panel USB port lets you play MP3 and AAC stored in an iPod/iPhone, and MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC audio files stored on a flash-memory device, and you can use the system's own remote for track selection and playback. Your music will sound much cleaner and clearer, as the audio signal is transported in digital rather than analog form through the direct digital connection.

Use it with your Onkyo A/V Receiver. It's all integrated, and it all works together beautifully.

Save Power With Hybrid Standby
Hybrid Standby provides 'HDMI through' functionality while the receiver sleeps, so you don't have to fully power up to watch a Blu-ray or play a game using just your TV's sound. 5 out of 5 eggsa Verry Good Product

Pros: This ONKYO TX-NR414 5.1-Channel 3-D Ready Network A / V Receiver is a verry good product and I am satisfact to have a lot of good experiences with it. I am also very pleased with the possibilities.

Cons: The price quality is quite good at this and at Newegg. Recommend everyone to buy at Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great for me!

Pros: Purchased for $199 - great deal!. Receiver needed firmware update which went OK via ethernet. So far no issues. Setup menus not as intuitive as Yamaha RXV373 (purchased earlier but overheated and began acting buggy-unit returned)and sound is on par, maybe a bit inferior to my ears but sound stage effects not as processed sounding as Yamaha's(totally subjective of course). On the other hand, more inputs, network capability, separate zone 2 output, good tech support (3 calls answered wihin 30 seconds by technically astute Onkyo staff) made this a winner for me. It appears the older reviews regarding inferior firmware are not relavent as this unit is AOK with most up to date firmware. Time will tell if I get 10 years out of this unit as I usually do before they become obsolete or dead. No regrets, good recovery Onkyo.

Cons: Needed firmware update out of box, but that went well seamlessly

Other Thoughts: Dollar for dollar and feature for feature, value is unbeatable and believe me, I CHECKED. No regrets, glad I pulled the trigger. BTW, NewEgg is 100% behind their products, no problems whatsoever re: returning buggy Yamaha receiver.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't risk it !

Pros: Good Dolby support, 3D, 6 HDMI, Network radio

Cons: HDMI switch leaves much to be desired

Other Thoughts: I was waiting to write my review, but the time has come. My 2nd unit just died after under two weeks, the first one died in just over 3 weeks. Both times HDMI output just stopped. I even went out and bought all new HDMI cables, switched them out, only thing wrong was the TX-NR414. I would have given it a zero rating if I could have...

4 out of 5 eggsgood value

Pros: good price, works well for me

Cons: very poor user interface, especially for the internet options. android phone app can't find my receiver, app has no option for entering IP address manually, dunno why, would prolly work if it did.

Other Thoughts: had issues with HDMI cables, this thing just didn't like some of them for whatever reason, thought I was having issue with video passthough for a while but different cables fixed my issue.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but clunky UI

Pros: Decent sound and amazing features for the price, bristling with HDMI ports and digital ports. Lots of setup options for 5.1 system, including setting dB level for each speaker and Sub cross-over freq. Test tone helped equalize the sound except for bass (hard to tell levels at low freq). Wired network connection plays Pandora (and MANY music sites) and sees DLNA server(s). Zone 2 (pre) out in case you need it (I don't now). Installed updated firmware via network per instructions, and it is doing what it is supposed to. Android App (haven't tried it yet but will).

Cons: Not as good sound as a mid-range Yamaha RX (maybe cheaper DACs and/or amp section?). Plastic feel to front panel switches. Clunky text based on-screen UI (mostly used for setup). Need to enable network port in standby (should be default?). No automatic level microphone setup.

5 out of 5 eggsOnkyo TX-NR414

Pros: Powerfull-Clean Sound......Pushes a set of Bose 301..............Haven`t used it for home theater yet so no opinion on that......But for 199.00.....its a steal for a 80 watt stereo set up......A no brainer at 199.00 Folks...!!!

Cons: None Yet

Other Thoughts: 2yr Service plan is standard with Onkyo....so you get some piece of mind there

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome ...200$ really?

Pros: Sound quality ...options for input/output...everything works ...power...200 clams.......WOW!!! Buy this if you get a bad one send it back till you get a good one.....WOW!!! this freaking thing rocks for the dough. I use XBMC and TIVO With a 60" Sharp TV HDMI and have no issue at all ....had the cheap pioneer receiver 521 I think..this machine blows it away.... sound stage is amazing I can't get enough of it....I want to buy one for all my friends....

Cons: It doesn't speak to me like in Iron Man.

Other Thoughts: I was skeptical reading the reviews ...I have seen none of those issues but for 2 bills? come on .....this think rocks.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: It is pretty and worked for almost two weeks. Had to say something nice because there is no option for zero eggs!

Cons: Make sure you read all the other reviews on this receiver before buying. I choose to ignore the bad reviews and I am sorry I did. Mine failed after two weeks with intermittent loss of video feed-through. I purchased this for it's A/V switching capabilities so I was pretty upset. Yeah, it sounded fine but became totally useless for my application.

Other Thoughts: I have been a big fan of newegg for years. Unfortunately I purchased this receiver elsewhere due to price (TD). I had the hardest time returning it for a refund and was sorry I had not purchased from newegg. They are always great about return. Purchased a Yamaha RX-V471 to replace this from newegg. Much better quality.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Reliability, Poor Performance

Pros: Low price

Cons: Had to take it in for warranty service because of a popping noise in the audio system. Then I found that it's not compatible with my home theater PC. Whenever the PC wakes up from sleep, the video is has a deep purple tint. The only thing that clears it up is to restart the PC. I know what you are thinking - it's a problem with the PC. It's not. The exact same PC runs perfect when it's connected directly to the TV. The same PC also runs perfect when I tried the same test setup using different Onkyo surround sound receiver. The only way I can get the purple video is when I use the Onkyo TX-NR414. I think there is a compatibility issue in the Onkyo firmware.

Other Thoughts: I currently own 3 Onkyo receivers and every one of them has required warranty service. I don't think I am going to switch to a new brand. Onkyo, you lost a customer. The last thing I want to do when I sit down to watch a movie is debug my home theater system.

2 out of 5 eggsNice at first

Pros: A good base line receiver for the price. Good sound and performance right out of the box.

Cons: I noticed during the first week that as the receiver warmed up with use, the surround channel output signal to noise ratio was not good. Monitoring signal to noise on the output with a scope and plotting it against heat of the unit verified this. After 10 days of use, the right surround channel went out completely.

Other Thoughts: It is a good receiver - perhaps I just received a copy that had a defect from the point of assembly. I will try one more time if the RMA is accepted. I would suggest that people who own this model of receiver not stack components as heat dissipation might be an issue with this base line model of Onkyo receiver.
