Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core i7 processor not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core i7 950 has four cores that run at 3.06GHz and shares 8MB of L3 cache.
Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room without lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.
With Intel Turbo Boost technology and Intel Hyper-Threading technology, The Core i7 enables highly threaded applications or demanding applications to work in maximum speed without any extra effort. The 45nm Intel Core i7 processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

Fast and requires less voltage than the i7 920 / 940 / 965.
- Pros: Fast enough @ stock speed!
Dont need to overclock this chip... ...for now!
- Cons: Stock speed is idling at 41~42c while using the stock heatsink and fan.
Replaced them with COOLER MASTER V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP, now its idling at 28~29 with lowest fan speed.
- Other Thoughts: If u plan to overclock this chip, better dont rely on its stock heatsink and fan.
Fastest thing I own
- Pros: Simply fast. Installed easily, runs acceptably cool and hasn't given me any hiccups yet.
- Cons: Pricey, but I didn't want to have to resort to OCing for the performance I wanted. Seems to run a little warmer than the 920 chips do, but what do you expect from a faster clock speed anyway?
- Other Thoughts: Before I received 64 bit software capable of utilizing multiple threads I thought this processor was quick, but it didn't seem much faster than my old 3+ GHz P4 machines while surfing the internet and using day to day programs. Then my software arrived and I experienced multi-thread goodness for the first time.
I'm a 3D modeler using Maya 2010 and I compared render times between this and my 4 year old workstation with a 3.4 GHz P4 and 2 GB RAM. Same 1.5+ million poly scene was rendered by both machines.
Old machine with Pentium 4 650 = 2:30 New machine with Core i7 950 = 0:11
That's a little over 15 x faster. Yeah, it's that fast. I've since compared my 3D benchmark results to those of dual quad core Xeon machines and been exactly on par with them. Yeah, it's that fast.

Stupid fast
- Pros: I'm coming from a 2.4ghz Core2Duo and I thought I wouldn't notice that much of a difference. I was wrong, this thing is a work horse, I've yet to put any kind of strain on it.
- Cons: A little expensive, if you're going to OC and know what you're doing, you'd be fine with a lower end model.
- Other Thoughts: By just upgrading motherboard/processor (not video cards) my framerate in GTA4 went from 15 to 60+.
Hello to all the helpfull experts here
- Pros: my question is..
is that a thermal compound on the i7 950 ? if so.. did anyone install it just like that with the included stock fan? I am not into overclocking at all.
Thank you for your help in answering
- Cons: none so far, cpu is still in the box untill I can get the answer to the thermal issue resolved
hot literlly
- Pros: mmmm it is a i7 and not my e8400
- Cons: it does not like 4.9 on water but it does like 4.8
