Is this backward compatible with USB 2.0 ?

I purchased 7 of these drives and am using them on multiple operating systems including Mac, Windows 7 & 8 and Linux.  The linux machines only have USB 2.0 and have had no problem accessing the seagate drives.

Question 2

Does this work with Bluetooth?  Can I transfer files wirelessly?

Seagate *does* sell a WiFi-n version, but it has half the capacity (1TB) and costs twice as much. And it won't do BT without some other sort of converter I don't even know is made or available. Additionally, I don't know of any other brands that offer a BT wireless connection, although there are other brands making WiFi-n units similar to Seagate's.

Question 3

Can the preloaded software be removed?  All I want is a blank 2TB drive, formatted for windows, on which I can create folders and write and read files as suits my needs.

Yes, it can.  In fact, the drive can be removed from the enclosure.  I took it out and installed it in my PS4.

Question 4

I assume, by the picture, that it is USB powered and doesn't have a separate power supply.  Is the formatting  Mac compatible and useful to Time Machine? In general how much storage is considered reasonable for an internal disk? Would it be same size like 1:1 or larger 1:1.1 or smaller like 1:0.75? Might I partition for that reasonable size and use the rest of the space for specific files?

I have had this drive for over seven months. I have a MacBook Pro with a 750 Gig SSD and I am in the graphics business so it is easy for me to fill the drive up. The Seagate is 2TB so it is ideal for a TM backup of my 750 Gig internal. I usually do 2 to one. Or it is fine just to have overflow storage photos, videos, and music files that quickly eat up my SSD. I also have a portable 1TB and 500MB. Each with different kind of stuff. I have 7TB total of powered hard drives on my desk.

I don't remember of I formatted it or not when I got it, but I probably did. I think the blue color is good looking and it is sure small. Never had any problem with being USB powered. With it being USB 3.0 hooked up to that port on my Mac it seems to be pretty snappy. Overall I have been very happy with it.

what is the RPM speed of this drive?

Seagate's website does not specify a speed. I have one report that says 5400RPM, but I can't confirm it. I am very pleased with this drive and it performs very well on both USB 2 and USB3.

Is this compatible with Windows Servers?

As long as it had a USB port it should work fine.  If it had USB 3 it'll be pretty darn fast.  I like these small 2.5 inch portables because they get all the power required from the USB so nor other power supply required.  I use mine wit Apple and MS Windows to move files around.  Also works great plugged into my DVD Player to stream movies, music, photos.    Very handy to have.

hello.....how much storage does this drive hold?....Is it bigger than a WD drvie?

The drive holds 2 terabytes of information. That is 2 thousand gigabytes.  Extremely large.  WD - Western Digital has drives of various sizes including ones as large as this one.  Both Seagate and WD create good products.  I bought 7 of these for the office and they have worked well.

Can I use in mu Mac?

Yes, it is MAC compatible. I use it with a MAC laptop.

Question 9

Can this device be connected through a USB Hub, or must it be connected directly to the computer? I have heard that that can be a problem, and my old Seagate (MANY years old) just died after having been used via a new Hub for a couple of months.

You don't have to worry. I think you can read a little more on how a USB works. Of course if you want usb3 speeds the hub has to be usb3, and with the correct amount of energy to power the devices you use.

Can this be formatted for Mac computers?

Yes.  I use mine on my Macbook Pro and it works with either format.  It will work fine with the basic format out of the box, but I reformatted mine Using Disk Utility with no problem.

If you plan to move files between your Mac and a PC, you're better off using the format already installed since both OS will be able to read and write to this drive.
