Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core i7 processor not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core i7 950 has four cores that run at 3.06GHz and shares 8MB of L3 cache.

Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room without lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.

With Intel Turbo Boost technology and Intel Hyper-Threading technology, The Core i7 enables highly threaded applications or demanding applications to work in maximum speed without any extra effort. The 45nm Intel Core i7 processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

Still Blazing!

Pros: Performs under pressure, at high temps and will chew up and spit out anything you throw at it. Well suited for overclocking, very forgiving.

Cons: Can get quite hot. Best used with a hydro/radiator cooler system.

Other Thoughts: I've had this beast for way over 5 years, nearly pushed to its limits everyday with gaming and video processing. Still working like new. This processor will last long.
its almost 2019 and still working like it was from day 1.

Still going in 2017

Pros: I bought this back in 2011, and this CPU is still going strong! I have it overclocked to 4.01ghz at 1.275 volts (generally runs at 1.26 under load) with a max temp of 76 degrees under load, and it runs like a champ on Windows 10. I use my computer for video editing, and gaming. If i knew this would stand the test of time I would have written a review sooner!

Cons: I always have an issue using the "Crazy" 3.7 ghz over clock that Intel includes with the chip, but I manually overclocked to 4.01 ghz, so I don't really care.

Other Thoughts: All of the components for this build are still running strong!

CPU - i7-950 @ 4.01 ghz, 1.275 volts
Mobo - Asus Sabertooth x58
RAM - Corsair Dominator 12GB (3 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 running at roughly 1697MHZ
GPU - XFX Double D Radeon HD 6950 DirectX 11 HD-695X-CDFC
PSU - Antec TruePower New TP-750 750W
OS HDD - Corsair Force Series GT 2.5" 90GB SATA III SSD CSSD-F90GBGT-BK
HDD 1 - Seagate BarraCuda XT ST32000641AS 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache
HDD 2 - Seagate BarraCuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache

A real workhorse for the older X58 motherboards

Pros: Intel got this one right!! I purchased this processor as a boxed version in 2011 from Newegg and paired it with a Gigabyte GA-X56-UD3R R2.0 motherboard with 6GB of G.Skill memory. I was originally running it at stock speeds with air cooling in a Gigabyte Aurora 3D case. I am now running it at 4.01GHz with the core voltage set at 1.30V in the same case with 12GB of G.Skill memory and Antec KUHLER H2O 920 cooling and Windows 7 Ultimate. The TCase temp never goes above 62C running prime95 with all four cores running. It is a 130w processor so there is a little heat generated at full bore but the Intel specs indicate a maximum TCase temp of 67.9C. I use the system for audio work utilizing Sony Sound Forge and the Steinberg products and am obviously NOT a gamer.

Cons: Absolutely NONE!

Other Thoughts: It's absolutely a crime Intel is not providing the chipset software for the X58 chipsets allowing it to be upgraded to Windows 10!!! Looks like I'll have to spend a little more money at Newegg to build an entirely new system for Windows 10, but I'll keep this system running for the audio work until it dies. It will be interesting to see how long it actually lasts running it at the current settings.

Old but Reliable

Pros: Back in November of 2010 I bought this processor for a new gaming rig after a store-bought rig basically cooked itself. The processor (and the motherboard it's in) is still going strong. I'm a gamer and I am absolutely positive I've run this thing pretty hard. Even now it has no issue with some of the newer games that have come out. It's a testament to the design and power of this chip that it's still capable of the processing power required for running many of the most recent and demanding games.

Cons: Not much bad to say about it. It has slightly too few GHz of power to run Witcher 3 without overclocking? And they don't make this chip anymore. I guess that's about it... and not really a negative at all when you consider it's a five-year-old chip! It runs a bit hot, but then, it is an i7. Definitely needed liquid cooling, which I had in the form of a Corsair H5O.

Other Thoughts: It's approaching time to upgrade if I want to keep gaming on a PC (not to mention it's time to move to Windows 10), and I honestly don't know if there's a current chip out there that compares to the staying power of this one--they may be faster, but staying reliable for five whole years was quite a feat.

Great Proc

Pros: Just about everything.
Fast
Stable
Dependable

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Got this in January 2011. Would still be using it but my MB (ASUS P6X58D-E) was getting behind the times and I needed more Sata 6 and USB3 ports.

Was the longest lasting computer I ever built.
Still in service with my son now.

4 years and counting!

Pros: A) Very very powerful
B) Well equipped for any task(gaming, editing, rendering)
C) Reliable, stable and dependable
D) Fast, and can get faster with overclocking

Cons: A) Stock cooler is not so great
B) Power hungry. This thing is a 130 watt cpu!
C) Forgotten and forlorn. No more motherboards made for it, and coolers are sometimes a chore to find for such an old socket.

Other Thoughts: I got this for a build around June of 2011. I put a Corsair H50 on it to keep this guy cool. I then paired it up with a GTX 480 and 12 GB of DDR3 and have never looked back. This thing even at stock speeds still holds up respectably compared to some of my friends' newer AMD or Intel based builds. Hyper threading has assisted in keeping this guy alive and practical in all my daily tasks. Getting an i7 has really proved to be an invaluable decision and cannot recommend them more to anyone looking to build a high end PC and wants it to stay near the top for a long long time.

Running strong 4+ years

Pros: Good speed, low heat, good energy rating.

Cons: Had to apply thermal paste over the processor but that happens with any

Other Thoughts: I've had this for over 4 years, it has been working very well for osx builds up through the most recent 10.9.4
