How is the noise on this drive?  Older Black drives do not have AAM and have been on the loud side.

Mine is quite very quite. Always consider how your mounting your drive. Some bays that are metal and will carry the noise where a plastic one will not.

What mounting hardware should be purchased with this for desktop?

I think that depends entirely on your computer case.  Almost (maybe all?) current drives are standard size and shape.  My current case is slide in and snap with nothing else required.  Others may need screws to hold the drive in place.

Will this drive work in a 2010 Mac desktop? I am thinking of up grading the drive.

Is the black drive the right color one to use for a RAID 1 setup? My plan is to pair 2 drives in RAID 1 for my main drive use and then use a single 3rd, possibly a blue drive, as a backup.

I have 4 of them set up in a RAID 10, I bought them because the price was good, the red drives are another good choice. I do like the 5 year warranty on these drives. The black drives are solid, fast spindle speeds and data transfer speeds!!

Why is the 5TB version only $1 more expensive than the 4TB version? Is there a hardware difference between the two capacities?

I don't know, but bear in mind that pricing may depend on various considerations, many of which may be  unrelated to performance and/or value. Looking at the NewEgg site, the 4TB drive costs $197, while the 5TB drive costs $225 (actually, right now it's on 3 day sale for $190) -- clearly, a bargain: $49.25 per TB for the former vs. $45 per TB for the latter. Add to that, the 5TB unit has double the cache size, which translates to better performance.

Question 7

Newegg says the 5TB HDD has a 128MB cache but the picture shows a 5TB WD Black with the same product number with only 64MB. Which is accurate?

It's a standard 3.5" SATA drive. I would research if it could handle a 5TB drive though. These drives are high performance but they run warm. I would go for a WD GREEN drive. Here too if it can handle a larger drive get the biggest it will take and you can afford! Since it's only one drive bigger is better.

What kind of mounting bracket or mounting kit will I need for an HP ENVY 750-420qe?

I am not familiar with your HP drive, this docking station accepts standard 2.5 and 3.5 in SATA hard drives. I inserted a 2.5" 500 GB SSD with no problems.
