Is this okay for regular storage? I'm not using it for video streaming and anything, probably mostly normal everyday programs and junk that I save. Thanks!

I'm sure it be would fine for that. I'm using this drive as an addition to a surveillance system because we needed more storage. So far it's working fine. Time will tell.

My only reservation on these larger drives is that when it comes time to defrag or format it takes much more time due to the size.

Other than that no issues/problems.

Question 2

Can u replace a SATA 3.0Gb HD with a SATA 6.0 Gb HD.  Is there a benefit/advantage to using a 6.0Gb HD on a MB with 3.0Gb headers???

Yes, you can typically connect a SATA 6.0 Gbps drive to a SATA 3.0 Gbps controller. Any features from the third generation of the SATA spec won't work, though.

As far as the data link goes, there is no advantage. As far as the drive itself goes, maybe. If the drive has features or capacity that is only found on the third-gen drive, then yes, there is an advantage, because the drive you want does not exist for SATA 3.0 Gbps.

Is the antivirus necessary?

I recommend to all of my clients to keep antivirus running on the Windows machines they use, but I personally will not use Norton. There are many free options available that I am comfortable using, such as AVG Free, MalwareBytes Free, and Clam. As a general rule, safest computing is abstinence ;-)

Can this product be installed into an HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop?

No.  Laptops take the 2.5" form factor.  This is a full size 3.5" hard drive.

This drive is for a desktop computer. I believe the HP Pavilian dv7 is a laptop and, if so, the short answer would be ... No.

Question 6

I'm planning to upgrade the 1TB WD 3Gb/sec External SATA drive in my backup enclosure - is the physical layout and connector(s) the same on this 6Gb/sec SATA drive?

The enclosure is a rigid design with no cables (the interface circuit board connects directly to the drive), so any interface changes would be a problem and I've never bought a 6Gb SATA drive before.

SATA is the same.. So I your Board support SATA it does not matter if you are using it External or internal SATA and ESATA use the same connector.

WD tech support has become increasing circumspect when asked that question. It's either 5400RPM or variable. Definitely not 7200.

What is IntelliPower? Can I use this to replace an IDE drive if I use an IDE to SATA converter?

IntelliPower simply means it has a variable spinning speed. So rather than having a fixed RPM such as 7200RPM, this drive various RPM from like 5400-7200RPM to save power. If you only have an IDE connector on your motherboard, then yes, you will need a IDE to SATA converter.

Question 9

Anyone know where to find drivers for this? I can't get Win 7 installed - install allows selection of an 18G partition only, then will not allow the install. When I attempt to create a new partition on the remaining space, it starts, then fails. I want to install the drivers from a flash drive, but can't find them - even at the WD site.

I would pull the drive and if you have a SATA dock that you can connect to another computer delete all that is on the drive do a quick format on the drive. Reinstall I have never had a standard drive not let me install an OS. SSD's raid yes. I am not a big intellipower drive person prefer NAS or RE drives for everyday use cost me more but have less drive failure.
