These worked perfectly out of the box, as usual.
For Synology NAS users, the Synology brand drives means easier adoption, less headaches and fewer notifications. The extra small pennies/gb price per GB over other enterprise drives with worth it. No need to worry about compatibility with many features of DSM 7.1
I chose WD for they have never failed me as other drives have failed. I hope to update this review in a couple of years and report on the status of this drive.
I have not installed it yet so my comment is on the value for 4 TB of storage from a great brand. I plan to use it mainly for backups and C drive images. Speed is not an issue and being a mechanical drive, I hope to get some warning of impending failure years from now vs a sudden SSD failure
Great read and write speeds, HUGE amount of space, and runs quiet and cool for a drive this size. Even under full load, I have never seen temps exceed 40C.
18TB is nice No failures, (bought 3).
-Never dipped in read/write speeds. -Running strong after 3 years.
- WD Reliability - Great price
It is a HD so you get what you ordered.
- This is a very high quality HDD. - It offers more cache than the WD Blue or WD Black drives. I usually go with WD Black in my builds, but I decided to give this drive a try with my most recent build. So far, I like it. - This drive should offer higher reliability (MTBF) than WD Blue or WD Black drives. - It is completely silent when mounted in a drive cage with rubber bushings (Fractal Meshify C). - There were no issues in terms of being recognized by my Asrock Z370 Extreme4 motherboard. - I bought this drive because I wanted a highly reliable and responsive storage HDD for my personal computer. I do play games, but I also do actual work with my computer (MATLAB, GUROBI, Mathematica, etc) and I typically keep these programs and the files they use on my storage drive. This drive appears to be performing quite well for those purposes.
Ran 4 of these in a storage array for a few years. They replaced a similar array built on smaller SATA drives. Needless to say, they're muuuuch faster than the SATA drives.
Worked perfectly on arrival.
These last for years and years
